Sever's Disease (Calcaneal apophysitis) Need help (Read 96 times)

Hey, i was diagnosed with Sever's Disease in late 2013 during cross country season. 2 and a half (roughly) years later my symptoms have not improved even through physical therapy, multiple shoe insets and heel cups, stretching, icing, and calf/Achilles strengthening. I was wondering if anyone out there knew of any magic shoe insert or anything else that would allow me return to the sport I love. Its been really heart breaking not being able to run for 3 cross country and track seasons... I would love some help getting back to having no more pain in my heels everyday. Thank you

      Hi,

My son has been struggling with Severs over the past two years. We've had a variety of treatment suggestions.  The best have been buying a stretch board (2 mins standing upright followed by 1 min bent forward over a table up to 4 times s day initially),

      https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=stretchboard&safe=active&client=safari&hl=en-gb&prmd=misvn&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjc1f-j6YnLAhWF1hQKHfI6DBQQ_AUICSgC&biw=320&bih=460#imgrc=ptkdSs7VjOL4pM%3A

was Aircast supports for when it was really bad.

There seems to be no quick fix. Good luck.

My son has also battled this through several CC and soccer seasons.  Switching to shoes w/ a large drop (more than 6mm) has made the biggest difference for him.

He does all the stretches, icing, immediate rest w/ pain, etc, too, but the shoes w/ a big drop are the difference between running and not.

Runs like a dj mixing songs while wearing festive outfits.
