Snow hell- first run in 2 weeks (Read 1009 times)

    Well, we still have snow piles covering everything. It has been over 2 weeks since I've run outside. And I am hard core, will run in almost anything.   There are no side walks, and everything is super narrow, with high snow moutains, making street running VERY dangerous.  Oh , the street corners all have super exaggerated snow mountains , too.

    Well, I found a semi dry neighborhood,and went for it this morning.  I only had to be on a main road for less than half a mile. Not  too bad.   These huge snow piles just seem to last forever.

    Can you believe the Cherry Blossoms are supposed to bloom at the end of March?

      Welcome to my world

      2012 Goals:

      5k = sub 22:00

      10k = sub 45:00

      HM = sub 1:40:00

      Run = 2000 miles

      Bike = 3000 miles

      Swim = 130 miles

        I bought a pair of snow shoes several years ago.  They were a very good investment.  I never miss a run due to snow.

          Anya, you're describing Maine in a typical year.  This year, however, even my driveway is totally ice free in the middle of February.  Whoo hoo!  Sorry, but I don't mind trading places with your part of the country for once!

            You know, I'm from Michigan.  It just seems like they don't know how to plow here.  I never remember it being this bad in Michigan.  I mean, there was literally NO WHERE to run.    No joke.  But, I won't complain, or I'll try to stop complaining.  It could be worse,as someone pointed out to me, we could be living in Haiti Sad

              I'm in Calvert county and they have done a great job of plowing in my area. It's a bit more rural, so maybe they have more places to push the snow. In DC and AA  they just push it to the side of the street. In NYC they truck all the snow to the Hudson. Is that possible here?

                 the difference is that roads in places that regularly get snow have somewhere to put the damn stuff.  When they plow down there just isn't anywhere to put it.  Locally, they've been slowly picking it all up with backhoes and trucking it to various places, which is restoring places to run. This reminds me of an RA conversation a while back when someone wondered why I'd run in the lane of travel on a two lane country road, rather than on the shoulder.  I laughed out loud, since our roads have maybe 1-2 inches of asphalt beyond the lane marker, followed by a ditch, or worse, a small upslope.

                  Someone said they can't dump it in the bay, since they treated it with chemicals.  Makes sense.

                    Yep --- Sounds kind-a like a normal New England Running Winter...........

                    Glad you got a taste of the "good life"........KEEP RUNNING.....

                    I think this thing about Virginia being the new Snow Belt's really a GREAT IDEA......

                      We haven't had as much snow here in RI, but there have been a  couple of good storms.  Lucky for me, I just moved near a street that has a bike lane and a parking lane, meaning that when plowed, it is very wide and safe.  In addition it is one way in each direction with a linear park in the middle, forming a nice, three mile loop.  It can get a little bit tedious if I am to get any major mileage in, but is better than an indoor track or (shudder) a treadmill.

                           +1.  I'm west of you in Ontario, but we get it almost as or as bad as you do.  (depending on where you are in Maine)  I think maybe it will be good for us to have a mild winter, and others to have it tough so they see that we aren't just a bunch of complainers.

                            I'm in the same boat....  first outside run in 2 weeks... and while it was nice to be on the road, I had to keep a close eye on my feet to make sure I side stepped the ice chunck and black ice...  Can not wait until spring!

                            My other pass time ....

                              The ice got me this morning ....

                              Actually finished my 8miles and was just doing a short couple block cool off ... a bit of snow on top of the ice.  Down I went.  Wasn't ready for it and ended up flat on my back.  Dang it hurt.

                              A couple beers tonight have it feeling better ... we'll see what tomorrow brings.  Come on Spring!!!!!!

                                I will run outside at all cost........I just don't know how you guys can run on treadmills.  Anyway, night before last.....about 2 inches fresh snow and a miserable 7 miles yesterday AM.........then another inch or two overnight last night.   Today I hoped to get 10 in, but just couldn't do it......did the same 7 as yesterday.  I am SOOOO sick and tired of this darn winter....UGH!!!
