Snow hell- first run in 2 weeks (Read 1056 times)

I will run outside at all cost........I just don't know how you guys can run on treadmills.  Anyway, night before last.....about 2 inches fresh snow and a miserable 7 miles yesterday AM.........then another inch or two overnight last night.   Today I hoped to get 10 in, but just couldn't do it......did the same 7 as yesterday.  I am SOOOO sick and tired of this darn winter....UGH!!!

I did 18 miles on the treadmill last weekend cause we had about 50inches of snow.  I get a good movie and try not to think about my legs...  much prefer the road, but when there is so much snow, not many other choices.

OK, so now I don't feel so bad..........50-inches?!?!?!??!  YOUCH!!!

yeah....  we had about 30 inches over a weekend...  It let up for about two days to let us shovel some of it, then we got another 20 inches on tuesday.... with 40mph winds...  Its fun training for a spring marathon in Maryland this winter!

        I look my best blurry!

I am training for my future races in a pool (until March 19th).  Stress fracture in my hip has me looking at the recently cleared roads with yearning.  Yesterday I got to my gym/pool only to find out that they didn't have towels and the pool/gym was cold due to a gas leak.  I ran in the pool 2 hours yesterday!  I deserve some kind of determination award!  I wish I could run in the snow.  Be grateful you have good strong legs to run on!

Two days of temperatures close to 40 - finally some melting.  We had 4 feet everywhere plus drifts of 10-11 feet after the 2nd storm Feb. 10-11...52 inches fell in 6 days.  Still though many sidewalks aren't clear and roads are narrow so on poorly or non-lit back roads I like to run on there is nowhere to go if a car comes.  This is pretty unusual to have snow on the ground for a solid month here - plus the 2 weeks + we had heavy snow cover in December!  Last year the snow didn't stick for more than 2 days at a time and only once fell enough (March 2) that I had to take a few days inside until it melted off.

Therefore I've been exclusively treadmill - 41 miles last week.  Luckily there have been the Winter Olympics to watch.  Supposed to get some rain the next few days, maybe by next weekend it will be down enough to finally go back outside!  I haven't run outside since Feb. 2 or 3.  If I can get through all these treadmill runs the spring should be no problem!

              21st century PR's: 1 mile: 5:27 (11/02), 2 miles: 12:10 (9/10), 5K: 19:28 (9/10), 5 miles: 32:36 (10/10), 10 miles: 1:13:22 (3/10)
Goal? To try and make some of these into lifetime bests.

A few times this past month I thought I was back in Montana, except that they are better at keeping the roads clear. I worked securing Nuke Missiles and they are spread out over an area almost the size of Indiana and in the boonies Hell most of Montana are the boonies. But in 4 winters NOT once was a crew  positing missed!!

So far this winter and living just a mile from the state road I have missed 4 days of work!! Thank God I have almost 600 hrs of Sick Leave on the books!!!!!!

To paraphrase an old poster: Today is the first day of the rest of your training. It doesn’t matter where you started or how far you’ve come. Today is the day.

Your training didn’t start 6 weeks ago. Your training started the last time you hit the road.
