Ascis DS-Trainer & DS-Racer (Read 1545 times)

Getting Faster!!!

I just started using the DS-Trainer and I love this shoe. I was thinking about getting the DS-Racer, but I've never run in flats. I want to use the DS-Trainer for most easy and all long run. I want to use the DS-Racer for speed work, the easy run after my speed work, strides and races. Is there anything wrong with using the DS-Racer for training? Also, what kind of mileage did you get out of your DS-Trainer and DS-Racer?

    The King of Beasts

You should not have a problem, if you feel like you need more shoe just go back to the Trainers.

A few fast guys around here train in the Hyperspeed (like the racer).

mta: bad grammer, not that my grammer is really good even after i try and fix it.

"No," said Pooh humbly, "there isn't. But there was going to be when I began it. It's just that something happened to it along the way."”

Did the DS Racer replace the Bandito?  If so I have the Bandito and honestly it feels like a lightweight trainer (lighter than the DS Trainer).  I also have the Hyperspeed which definitely feels like a flat.

Anyhow, if the DS Racer did in fact replace the Bandito you should be OK if you're looking to do longer runs in them.  I've done long runs in the Banditos without a problem.  If you are looking for more of a racing flat I would check out the Hyperspeed.

There is a long dark road ahead of me.

What was the secret, they wanted to know; in a thousand different ways they wanted to know The Secret. And not one of them was prepared, truly prepared to believe that it had not so much to do with chemicals and zippy mental tricks as with that most unprofound and sometimes heart-rending process of removing, molecule by molecule, the very tough rubber that comprised the bottoms of his training shoes. The Trial of Miles; Miles of Trials

I've run in DS Trainers for years.  They hold up very well for me as I can get up to 1000 miles on a pair.  My current pair - version 12 - is at about 700 miles and they feel fine.   The 12's I bought from Telarunner as an old closeout.  I like them better than the 13's and 14's.  I have a pair of 14's that don't feel right anymore and they have about 600 miles on them.

I'm beginning to like the feel of 'neutral' shoes more than the DSTs.  I have a pair of ASICS Gel Stratus that I use more than my DST's.  Theyre about the same weight as the DSTs but are neutral.  I'd definitely buy another pair of those.  They still feel great and have over 700 miles on them.

DS Racers were extinct for several years and they've just now brought them back.  Don't know if they are the same as the old ones but I used to have a pair of those and I used them for marathons.  Good shoes.

For a peak at the durability of DSTrainers have a look at my equipment list - there's a lot of miles on DST's there!

                Running Shoes

How do you run in your shoes so long? My soles are bare after 300 miles in the forefoot. I'm trying to run lighter on my feet. Maybe when I master running lighter, my shoes won't wear as fast.

The product description of the DS Racer 8 indicates that the DS Racer went on a hiatus, becoming the Bandito for a couple of years and is now the DS Racer again.  As I said before this shoe had plenty of cushioning and feels like a lightweight trainer to me.  I see no problem running a marathon in them.

There is a long dark road ahead of me.

Heh, I was thinking just the opposite yesterday - how can people possibly only get 300 miles out of a pair of shoes? I have two pair of shoes going at the same time and the current pair of pairs have over 2,500 miles on them. Knock off a bit for races which I use other shoes for but 90% of the rest of my mileage is done in these shoes. It must be well over 1,000 miles per pair and the soles look great.

I think running surface probably matters - I'm lucky enough to do quite a bit of my running on hard packed dirt.

Hey Ken, you should try the Tarther (got the name right this time). I tried my first longish run (13) in them and they felt great. About the cushioning of the Bandito but with the roomier fit of the Speedstar and lighter than both. Not sure where the DS-racer/trainer fits into that equation though

In the past, I ran exclusively on concrete. Now, I mix it up. My easy runs are on concrete. I now do speed work on a rubber high school track and most of my long run is on crushed granite trails. I might add a bridge to my long run which requires running on concrete to get to the Kemah bridge. Now that a lot of my miles are no longer on concrete, I am noticing that my soles are not wearing as fast. I would love to see how they hold up if I didn't run on concrete.

I did check up on them at running warehouse.  I'll probably get a pair.  Not a fan of white shoes though.  I run on dirt or grass most of the time and they start to really look bad.
