Mountain Biking (Read 1024 times)

Looking for a mountain bike for all mountain riding mainly in the WV mountains....Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions on types or certain things to look for. It is overwhelming Undecided looking on the net! Our local bike shop didn't have much to say about that kind of mountain riding, just the little trails around here (raleigh, nc) My husband bought a Specialized Enduro Expert. There aren't as many women's bikes, but is a small frame okay?? Thanks in advance!!

Do you want (or need) full squish or is a hardtail OK? If you want a fully then a very good but expensive woman's geometry bike is a Santa Cruz Julianna. I searched for good used one for awhile but finally gave up. I just bought my wife a used Specialized Stumpjumper M4 in a small size, women's geometry frame. It's a hardtail, fits her like a glove, and she loves it and definitely now that we've been riding I think the Julianna would have been overkill for the type of rider she is. Your LBS oughtta be able to tell you this kinda stuff. Good luck.
I have yet to purchase a bike just because I want to make sure it's something I'm going to use a decent amount. A bike for commuting and weekend fun with a friend would be excellent. My search so far has been mainly focused on hybrid bikes. My Advice See if you can test the bike out at your local store. Last I checked, there was at least one bike shop close to me that had demo units. You might also want to try renting different bikes to see what you like. I need a full squish....I do a lot of xc, but also downhill. I'm not super crazy into the jumps, but I like my share! I've been to 2 local shops and they don't have many bikes or much advice for the type of riding.

Try this link for info on fitting a bike for females: http://www.titusti.com/womensfit.html also go to the 'All Mountain' forum on mtbr and ask for some more suggetions or do some searching: http://forums.mtbr.com/forumdisplay.php?f=115 here's a good thread from that forum: http://forums.mtbr.com/showthread.php?t=199833&highlight=female There are so many options out there you really ought to spend some time researching it. I just threw out the ones that were appropriate for my 5'4" wife and her riding type.
