My first run in Vibram Five Fingers (Read 3140 times)

Just did my first run in Vibram Five Fingers! Went one mile to see how they feel.

    Two things

    1. Knees feel great

    2. Calfs are a little tight

Overall I'm pretty happy with the run.

    fear the fu

I love mine.  I did 2.5 in the snow today.  Got a bit chilly but it was still fun.

I still feel like a giddy little kid when I put them on and head out.  I hope that feeling doesn't wear off for a very long time.

BTW, I did nearly 5 last Monday followed by 4 on Tuesday.  My calves were toast after that.  I'm a wuss.

Just because I look dumb doesn't mean I'm not...

I am considering trying some Vibram Five Fingers.  I am not sure if I would be better to go with the Sprints that have the straps or the Classics.  I am sure that the Classics wouldn't slip off of my feet but that still makes me nervous having never worn them.  Any thoughts on that?
I have the KSO which has the straps. The only problem was getting them on. The salesperson who also runs in them said that will get easier. I never tried the classics.
I have the classic. The main complaint people have with them is the heel rub and the elastic cord digs into one's foot. I had these problems too, but your feet adjust and it is no longer a problem for me. To avoid these issues and maintain that minimalism get the sprints. The main issue with the sprints is that if sand gets under the strap it will rub your foot.

              Thanks!

I am leaning towards the sprints but I had heard some people say that the strap on them rubs a bit.

              Hawt and sexy

I am seriously considering the KSO.  They are so pretty.

                I'm touching your pants.

My first encounter with Vibrams was classics. The rubber band in the back was cutting mercilessly into my Achilles tendon. I could not foresee that when I was trying them on for the first time but after 2-3 miles I really felt the pain. I loosened it without much relief. I ended up removing it altogether.

My favorite ones are KSO. I have to wear my Vibrams with Injinji socks because my feet sweat and I tend to get blisters. I believe it is very important to try them on before ordering. I went by the guide on Vibram's website and found it not working for me. It seems even w/o socks needed to order one size larger than what the site advised.

These are great "shoes" but the beginning calf pains can be rather bad. BTW, my son loves 'my' old classics.

I would rather wear out than rust out.

how well do they hold up? have you noticed any premature wear and tear?
My classics got a hole in the toe. I think this was due to improper fit and stubbing my toe. VFF allowed me to return them even though it was passed the warranty period. I return them for KSOs. I currently have more miles on the KSO than I did on the classics or even my flows. No noticeable wear and tear on them. I like the the KSO better than the classics. They seem much more comfortable. The only issue I had was the initial break in. The strap was rubbing on my insole. I solved this by wearing injinjis. Once I passed 40 miles I stopped wearing the injinjis and no longer have rubbing.

I did 2 last year, and tore my calf.

I love the classics. I tuck the elastic thingy back into the heel back part and have no issues with rubbing. They have been away for the winter. Since I run now exclusively on Nike Free's ,I don't think it will be much to get back into the Vibrams in spring.

I got to 1200 miles before replacing my first pair (Sprints), and even then it was only because they were starting to look horrifyingly dirty, and I was offered a free pair.

Budman do you also run barefoot at all?  If so how do they compare?   There are times I need a minimalistic shoe.   I have some water shoes I use to walk in.   However I don't like them for running because they move around on my feet and I don't get good ground feel.

Mine fit like a glove. They don't move at all. The ground fell is okay.
