Well, not here, but lots of schools mostly south of us have had school cancelled. I would think they will dismiss early at my son's school, but he has AM kindergarten, so will likely not be affected. Tomorrow is the community holiday parade, so that should be fun if it looks Wintery. Plus my kid's school (small Montessori) is doing a benefit where parents pay $40 and the school keeps our kids entertained from 10-3 and even takes them to the parade, so this is gonna be a GOOD weekend! Big grin k

Evil grin If he complains about no snow days, you can tell him that he's getting one tomorrow... Clowning around Modified to add: Nah... he might think you were threatening to not let him go to the parade. Never mind!

      Roads were made for journeys...

Not much chance of snow here, which is San Francisco Bay Area. I miss those 'first snow' days - lived in MA for a long, long time. What I don't miss is waiting for winter to end. We had some very cold mornings here but during the day it got warmer and very, very sunny. Today we'll probably hit 60. Good running day, but I won't be able to squeeze more than a couple of miles today. Oh, well.

OMG, so the weekend started on a really shitty note. Just had to have my car towed! Stopped at the store on the way home to pick up a few things and managed to drive off the parking lot into the grass (I feel a little better knowing that MANY people apparently do this during white outs when parking lot and grass no longer are visibly distinct...and they have already towed another car out as of this AM. Would be nice if they put up some sort of fence to mark the end of the lot if this is a regular occurance). Also discovered that every negative thing ever said about the stock tires on the Mazda 3 is true--they are complete crap in snow (awesome on dry roads, though). I am one of those weirdos who doesn't really mind driving in snow and actually enjoys the challenge, but I'm also used to driving cars that are actually pretty good in snow (our grossly underpowered '97 Ford Escort with good all-weather tires rocks Winter roads). I can't get any traction at all until 3rd gear, so it's hard to get moving without stalling. So hubby's planning to place an order with Tire Rack for smaller wheels (16" instead of 17") with higher profile snow tires...REAL snow tires, like Blizzaks. None of this lame-o all-season stuff. It's gonna probably run us $700 at an already $$ time of year, but it's still cheaper than running our car into a tree or another car.... Tongue k

Oh, and DH asked me if the ABS kicked-in at all...silly boy. I discovered that ABS even works in reverse! Tongue k

Heck, for that much money I could have had a treadmill! I am SO not looking forward to my long run tomorrow. The winds will be high and temps cold. I wanted to do a 90 minute, but I might cut it short and do some kickboxing or something (or maybe wait until Sunday if it's better). It's been 3 weeks since my last long run. Tongue k

yowza, lucky Dash Wink I recently had to replace all my tires too Sad seems my car likes to eat them. They are supposed to get 80k miles out of em, but I don't get anywhere near that.

Ack, and I just got stuck in 2-3" of snow in my son's school parking lot. Under the snow there was frozen slush...like grease. Had to use my little car shovel thingie (worth its weight in gold) to scrape down to pavement under the front wheels and then I could finally back out of the parking space, but starting from stoplights and stop signs was difficult, to say the least. Damn little car with its sporty wheels and tires and torquey engine. Thank *insert deity of choice* I drive stick. I think with an automatic I would have been sunk. As it was I found out that one CAN start in 3rd gear. Never knew it was even possible. k

I've been drooling over that one but unfortunately it does not have a bike attachment. I am waiting for them to update the 625x which looks just awful, a big chunk of plastic but it's got some nice features. Can't have it all. Sad

I'm in central Massachusetts & we're looking at our first dumping of snow on Sunday. I've got to drag the sandbags out from the garage (rear wheel drive pickup), look for the snow scraper & restock the rock salt. I haven't yet been out running in the snow since I started running again in April. We'll see how dedicated I am now.
