While this is good news, it's a little embarrassing that this issue is still being debated, considering that there are not any logical reasons why gays should not be allowed to wed.
I say, let everybody get married, just ban divorce! That'd be fun. |

This is absolutely good news.
Gay marriage has been legal in MA for a few yrs now and there have been no negative aspects.
Now if it would only be recognized at the federal level. I just learned today that having your gay spouse covered under your health insurance in MA is considered to be taxable income by the federal gov't. In my opinion, that is just wrong. |

| i don't want to start a firestorm here about whether or not gay marriages should be legal but why would they go through the time and expense to have a vote banning this only to have the supreme court change it? and then in november if it's on the ballot again it could be voted down once more? am i missing something here or is this just silly? |

| In many states it is possible to get voter refferendums on the ballot simply by having enough signatures. There is no review of the referrendums to see if they are worded in a way that could be considered constitutional. So the voters can vote for it, but if it violates state constitution in the eyes of the court it will be overturned. Often to be rewritten and voted on again in an endless circle of taxpayer hell. |

The Civics is strong with this one.
I think that there is move to amend the constitution in CA to avoid this possibility (endless loop in the courts).
I always found it inconsistent that conservatives complain about promiscuous gay lifestyles and don't want to legalize the institution of marriage that presumably would result in less of the promiscuity that they complain about.
I just don't get it. Gay couples do not make me less married. Not really my business if they do. |

Any particular reason this has to be discussed here and not elsewhere? As in another site, or in one of the sad but apparently necessary self-segregated groups created specifically to discuss issues like these?

Globule, is there a reason there isn't already a picture of an angry emu in this thread? |
