OK, now you've gone too far. Please don't ever do that again or I might have to dredge up a Bobby Goldsborough song. (sound of cat coughing up hairball)...

To quote a friend of mine, just 'cause you can, doesn't mean you should. If you do, I'm ready and I'm not afraid to use the nuclear (Capt'n & Tenille) option.

There is NOTHING better than the Fishing in the Dark by the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band.
Lazy yellow moon comin up tonite, Shinin thru the trees, Crickets are singin and lightning bugs Are floatin on the breeze Baby get ready.....
Across the field where the creek turns back by the ole stump road Im gonna take you to a special place that nobody knows Baby get ready.....ooooooooooo
You and me going fishing in the dark, Lying on our backs and counting the stars Where the cool grass grows. Down by the river in the full moon light, Well be fallin in love in the middle of the night Just movin slow...
Stayin the whole night thru, feels so good to be with you...
Spring is almost over and the summers come And the days are gettin long Waited all winter for the time to be right, just to take you along Baby get ready.....
And it dont matter if we sit forever and the fish dont bite Jump in the river and cool ourselves from the heat of the night Baby get ready.....ooooooooooo.
I love that one! |

Lyrically decent, but not spectacular. Musically, one of the great masterpieces - Jazz with blues influence classically arranged in movements. Each movement's thread stands alone of its own merit, but is nicely layered into the fabric of each section. Smooth transistions from one section to another. It's best when you listen to parts 1-9 consecutively instead of broken up like they are on the original release:
Remember when you were young, you shone like the sun. Shine on you crazy diamond. Now there's a look in your eyes, like black holes in the sky. Shine on you crazy diamond. You were caught on the crossfire of childhood and stardom, blown on the steel breeze. Come on you target for faraway laughter, come on you stranger, you legend, you martyr, and shine! You reached for the secret too soon, you cried for the moon. Shine on you crazy diamond. Threatened by shadows at night, and exposed in the light. Shine on you crazy diamond. Well you wore out your welcome with random precision, rode on the steel breeze. Come on you raver, you seer of visions, come on you painter, you piper, you prisoner, and shine!
Nobody knows where you are, how near or how far. Shine on you crazy diamond. Pile on many more layers and I'll be joining you there. Shine on you crazy diamond. And we'll bask in the shadow of yesterday's triumph, sail on the steel breeze. Come on you boy child, you winner and loser, come on you miner for truth and delusion, and shine
As an aside, my 6 y/o daughter loves this song and we've had discussions about its meaning.
Lyrically, I'll give a nod to Kashmir's superiority over this work. |

Great one! It's amazing what they went on to accomplish after losing the artist that defined that band's every move in the early going. |

Gets my vote. Best song. Best album. One of the few songs I could probably put on a loop and listen to for days. |

Bestest song ever is a hard choice, but it comes down to two for me - "There She Goes," by the La's and "Stupidly Happy" by XTC.

TOXIC all the way!!!!
"With the taste of your lips I'm on a ride You're toxic I'm slippin' under With the taste of the poison paradise I'm addicted to you, don't you know that you're toxic? And I love what you do, don't you know that you're toxic?"
on a more serious note...the best song ever for me has no lyrics. Explosions in the Sky's Remember Me as Time of Day |

This was the first album I bought that was made before I was born. It remains one of my favorites of all time.
That said, I can only listen to this when I'm in a good mood. If I'm already down in the dumps, this record makes me want to die. Very powerful stuff. |
