The King of Beasts
Today ran last 20 miler in the cycle on my 10 mile "hilly" loop course. First 10 just under 1:18 and 2nd loope around1:12. Miles 17,18,19 MP + about 10 secs. Mile 20 MP -10 finishing on a pretty aggressive hill. Heart rate avg 130 which pleased me as I generally race at about 155 bpm.
= Money
have fun in Boston !
Be ye ware of ThaThundah
V2 is dead...there is only Thunder Classic. Same great taste as before.
Right on Hereford...
Dakota is also at altitude...so when he comes DOWN to Boston, he'll have an extra gear.
Dammit. I was hoping you'd forget that.
The other day on the Boston thread, a lot of us started looking at results from last year, I went one step further today and entered a few names in athlinks from those that raced at my dream pace. I am no longer confident I can meet my goal. I would love to see 2:49:59 but when I checked 10 people that were around this time, their recent PR's in all race distances were much faster than mine. I couldn't find one person that had PR's close to mine that ran that fast. I think I better readjust my goal.
I saw flovesparko at the half marathon he ran. He told me he was "hoping" for a 1:24. He was a good 30 seconds ahead of me the whole race and didn't look like he was breaking a sweat. I have a sneaking suspicion he is going to "accidentally" break 2:50, probably while still not breaking a sweat
I'm up in two weeks at St. Louis. I am hoping for a sub 2:55. While McMillan predicts a 2:55:40 something based on a 1:23:17 half, I figure I can do this since I ran the half after running a 50K the week before (I was going at easy pace, but it was a very sloppy race). Like Dakota says, no guts no glory!
Good luck to the boston crew, sounds like it will be fun for everyone to get together, and have a little friendly competition.
2012 Goals: Run more trails.
Half-marathon 1:23:39.
First 10 @ GMP: (6:26. 6:30, 6:25, 6:20, 6:26, 6:27, 6:24, 6:28, 6:28, 6:34 = 1:04:32) Last 5k pick-up. 95-100% last mile (6:14, 6:12, 5:56, 0:44 (5:18/mi)). Last 5k in 19:07.
Miles 0-1.5 and 7-11.5 were into a 18-25 mph headwind, but overall pleased with the run. Ran another 4 miles easy after the race to make it 21.1

DCV, awesome race/workout. The fact that you can run a 19:07 5k after running 1:04 for 10 miles is something I dream to be able to do. You are killing it this training cycle.
El_jeffe, your 30k is indeed a great predictor of sub-3. VDOT charts give it 2:54, in fact. Nicely done!
Me, not so much. I barely finished my last 20-miler today at 8:15 pace and felt horrible.

Chin up Dakota, you still got me in ytd mileage....for another day or two...
Sweet!
So I ran my half-marathon today.I say "ran" instead of "race" since it was more of a workout. Ran 4 miles easy right before race, then ran the half: Half-marathon 1:23:39. First 10 @ GMP: (6:26. 6:30, 6:25, 6:20, 6:26, 6:27, 6:24, 6:28, 6:28, 6:34 = 1:04:32) Last 5k pick-up. 95-100% last mile (6:14, 6:12, 5:56, 0:44 (5:18/mi)). Last 5k in 19:07. Very nice!
You will need to get a more consistent effort / pace for the marathon ... It penalizes you more for early pacing mistakes.
You got it, you just need to execute.
Hi folks- completed my half marathon on Saturday in my Marathon build up. First time racing this distance as will my marathon. Finished in 1:23:31. Delighted with my time although I dont think I paced it well. My splits are a bit all over the place but the course was a bit up and down and a fair bit run into a head wind. Probably went out a bit too hard and started to fade a bit between 9 and 12 but still had a 6:10 finish although it was mostly downhill. A good confidence boost and hope I can pull off the sub 3.00
DCV - impressive splits, disipline to hold back, and then a strong final push
el_jeffe - congrats on your race
kerbcrawler - that's a nice half as well
Dakaota - you've run long enough to know one training run doesn't make the race. You finished in a respectable pace even while feeling not your best. I'd take it as a positive rather than a negative.
67.75 miles last week. One more mid 60's week and then it's taper time. My long run this Saturday will end with a 5K race as it's part of our club's participation run.
Have a good week of training all.
Great job Kerbcrawler, eljeffe, and dcv2002. It appears all of you are on track for excellent marathon results.
Dopple Bock mention that I think too much and he's right, I tend to do that as my "A" race gets nearer. I found out last year that almost all my past race results using the McMillians calculator predicted what I would do in future races.
Kencamet, I only have three race results this year and the problem I'm having is that one was at the start of my 17 week training cycle, another four weeks later, both were too early and were short races to predict a Boston goal. The only one I have is last weeks half Marathon and the problem with that one is that it was a very hilly course with no taper. My GPS showed elevation +1728/ -1734 (I know I can't trust that number but I bet it close). I have a hilly 12 mile training run that routinely shows +1479/ -1482. The race course has more hills. My time for the half was 1:22:36, McMillians predicts 2:54, Daniels has 2:52 for the marathon. My workouts for the last month (lactate threshold & marathon pace run) have all been run at 2:49 pace equivalents. I think my body will be going through another round of adaptation after the last month of training so I'm hoping for fresh legs like ChakaKahn mentioned, stronger cardio system, and great weather on race day. As Dakota said "no guts, no glory".
Flatfooter, fantastic job on the half marathon especially since you were running on extremely heavy legs from the 50K a week prior, just think what you would have run!
My GPS showed elevation +1728/ -1734 (I know I can't trust that number but I bet it close).
FYI, I bet it's not close at all if you're relying on your Garmin GPS to report that elevation change. Probably a lot less than that.
I think you'll have a decent shot at 2:50, especially if weather/wind is favorable. By the way, the prediction put out by Daniels' calculator is the one I usually put the most faith in (in the past it has been the closest of all the calculators).
Anyone else feeling the nervousness setting in? I'm usually cool as a cucumber leading up to marathons these days but this one has me feeling like a rookie again. I keep thinking of my remaining workouts and should I do this instead of that etc etc. I'll be glad when I hit that last workout and then I can relax, hopefully.
Are we there yet?
Anyone else feeling the nervousness setting in?
+1
too many unknowns and variables, I have never taken som many days off due to injury then Doppled my log afterward. Perhaps I should just be content to finish sub 3:10... dunno.
