If you want to win lots of gold metals, you need to eat like Michael Phelps.

Yeah, they showed that on the news here this morning. Ewwww.

In a weekend where I run 2 marathons, I have to get 6000ish calories on the Saturday. It's f'in HARD to eat that much. I can't imagine double that... and the stuff he was eating mostly made my stomach do flipflops.

Interesting...not a lot of protein or fruits and veggies in there. I wonder how good a representation that is of his diet on a typical day?

I don't know the answer to that question. I *do* know that when one is trying to pack in calories, veggies get in the way, for one of the reasons they are GOOD when you are trying the opposite. Veggies are not calorie-dense.

Broccoli might be the wonder food of the universe, and I do believe that... but just try to eat megacalories based on broc and the like. You can't eat that much of it.

Good grief that's lots of food. Looks like simply a calorie load but that is lots of time at the table. Seems he gets to eat-swim-sleep. All this for those million dollar contracts.

I recall some swimmers I knew in college and they would put away pizzas two at a time. Of course we can all agree that pizza is the perfect food - all the good groups and you can even throw some brocs on there to get more veggies. There is no such thing as a bad pizza, just varying shades of good. Clowning around

True (and broccoli makes ya' toot!)...but how does he survive on so little protein? Though maybe those ham & cheese sammiches had a lot of ham on them...and that was quite a few eggs.

Or to hole in the wall Pizza Hut rip off joint in Valencia when nothing else is open at 9PM. Dead Ahhh, another reason to never leave NY.

To the OP, my step father is a swimmer. He still competes at the ripe old age of 66. I have never seen him down anything remotely close to 12,000 calories. Another reason why Michael Phelps is not human! Big grin

On the other hand 12,000 calories from broccoli could just give him yet another form of propulsion. He’d have to pull those Speedo pants down another 12-inches or just cut some kind of flap.

How many hours a day does Michael Phelps spend on the toilet? What do you suppose his reading material is?
