Morning run nutrition? (Read 1334 times)

i usually eat a good breakfast and run in the afternoon before lunch averaging right about 7 mm. today i left earlier with no breakfast, just some nuts and a couple sips of water, and ended up with about a 7:20 mm. i think for me personally (especially with hyperthyroidism) it is best to get some good fuel and nutrients to provide the right amount of energy.

    Jazz hands!

I don't eat anything before my usual (5-6) mile pre-work runs, just get up, prep the coffee, feed the cat, take a few sips of water and go.

Weekend long runs (okay, "long" runs) I'm usually awake for about an hour beforehand, so I eat a banana or something simple and easy on the stomach before heading out.

Before races, I have a light breakfast and COFFEE.

Wake up, take 3 electrolyte tablets, 1 ginseng tablet, and 1 Gu.  Wait 12 minutes, take an amino acid blend, then 1 more Gu.  Run 2-3 miles, stop home and drink half a gatorade, run 2-3 more miles, end run at home and half the other half of the gatorade, then a protein shake.

        Double IPA Please!

I do most of my runs around 5am lately and I honestly dont take in anything more than a cup of coffee. Sometimes Ill eat a little something, but not typically. I run between 7 and 8 miles during the week mornings and do fine with very little if anything in my stomach.

mta- however, my weekend long runs or runs I do in the afternoon, then of course I eat.

I run up to 22 miles in the morning with nothing to eat before or during the run.  It's really not hard to get used to, the first couple of times your stomach may growl, but after that, it's a piece of cake.  I'll do up to 12 miles of speed training without any breakfast or energy drink etc.  This can be done while running 80+ mpw.
