My airline in which I have been earning mileage through a credit card folded yesterday, and lost tons of mileage. So, now i'm looking for a new credit card and thought that I'd survey the RA folks on the credit cards with the best perks, mileage or other rewards. Right now i'm looking at Blue Sky from Amex.

I'm pretty happy with the Chase Rewards Perfect Card. You get a 3% rebate on gas purchases and 1% on all other purchases. I pay the balance in full every month, so i don't know or care what the finance rate is, to me it's 0%. I average between $10 and $15 rebate per month (more around Xmas...) which isn't much but it's better than a sharp stick in the eye.

We use the Hilton Honors Amex card. We never pay for hotel rooms any more and have taken some great vacations. I think our hotel in London would have been $500 per night - we had 10 nights free in a great location!

Are you a USAA member? They have an awesome card, with good reward choices. And they do not have ridiculously punitive fees waiting around ever corner.

Assumptions: -You pay your balance of -You are looking for low hassle rewards. -You hate points BS. (%$*@ POINTS!) -MONEY NOT POINTS are KEY -FASTER YOU GET YOUR REWARDS the BETTER
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now with those assumptions in place....
www.penfed.org
My first suggestion would be the Penfed Platinum Cash Rewards VISA. If you have military background or work for the fed it should be painless to join. If you do not fit the military criteria, you can joint National Military Family Association for $20 (One time unless you want to pay for their membership each year). Membership to the NMFA will grant you access to Penfed credit union membership. To maintain a Penfed membership, you will need to have a basic savings account with 5 dollars in it. Make sure you tell them you want electronic statements.
What I like about the cash rewards card is it is LOW HASSLE! You get your reward money applied to your balance every month. No BS of having to call in and get your rewards. The current rewards are 1.25% on everyday purchases, 2% on grocery and drugs, and 5% on gas.
Rates on international transfers can be done 2 ways if I remember correct. I believe this is one of the better cards for international use. 1% of transaction amount fee for international purchases.
Penfed also has decent deals on mortgages and cds (5% for 7 month).
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Alternatively… and agreeing with BadDawg
Chase Perfect card (Mastercard) -1% everyday -3% on gas -LOW HASSLE, REWARDS AUTOMATICALLY APPLIED
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If you drive a lot or shoot if you own a car, you might want to check the Drivers Edge Mastercard.

Assuming you pay off your card every month in full, the Amex Blue card is a good deal. 5% back on gas and groceries, 1.5% back on everything else (once you've charged $6500 for the year, before that its 1.5% and 1% I think).
If you charge a lot and pay in full, its a great value.
if you carry a balance, I can't recommend any card. |

Alaska Airlines flies all over these days and you get a companion fare (fly one of your kids anywhere for $50 + fees as long as you travel too) and you earn a mile for every dollar you spend. I charge a lot to it and pay off at each month (when I can). I usually earn a free ticket each year at least and this year 3 of 4 of us are flying to Germany on miles.
