Fly Time (Read 111 times)

pedaling fool

I've been watching a lot of running videos that talk about different styles of running and the "flying time" of certain runners and  a couple questions come to mind that I can't seem to find.

    1. What is the minimum pace one can do using the gazelle form of running?

    2. Are there videos anywhere that shows "Air Time" for people doing various paces, i.e. say, from a 15-minute/mile pace on up to elite levels?

BTW, just for a reference here's a couple examples of links I've been looking at

Gliders vs Gazelle style running https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tJWPwVF30yo    and    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MFxPlUKrZPQ

And this talks about Meb's air time during a marathon  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jb53bSl_HYQ

^^^ Thanks for the link. I read over it, but didn't see what I was looking for.

I did read that you should not try and consciously run a certain way; to just let your body figure it out. I agree with that for the most part.

However, I'm not asking the question out of a desire to increase my time, nor to have a certain running style.

Rather, it's simply curiosity, period. I've been watching a lot of videos and reading stuff on running, only because it (as a relatively new runner) attracts my attention and it's just one of those things I end up thinking about while I'm running.

My theory is that at a certain pace one must run using a gazelle style (which from my understanding is just more of a dynamic jump in your stride). Just look at the sprinters. Could you be a sprinter and use the gliding form?

As I do my long runs I can feel myself doing the gliding stride. However, when I do my speedwork, especially at the shorter distances, I know I'm in the gazelle mode. I don't think I could get anywhere near that speed using the gliding method.

I looked briefly at the two videos. Sounds like a bunch of total nonsense to me.
