Snooze button kicked my ass this morning. I am going to run tonight or on my lunch break though.

Lunch runnin' is a great way to go if you can swing it. Most of my runs come at lunchtime. Excellent way to break up the day, and there's no snooze button! Smile

Get out there, MoT. You can do this.

You're doing great so far and, don't let little snooze button setbacks get you down. Forward is forward. I can't believe you've already lost 6.5 pounds! That's awesome. Keep up the good work. Wink

You are da'man! Enjoyed reading your narative about starting running/weight loss. Just try to be as consistent as you can with the right behaviors.

Good luck.

Luckily, advice isn't what I need. I know what I need to do, I just need to actually do it. What I need is encouragement, and accountability.

Great job so far MoT. This is the perfect place to seek encouragement - so many people have been through and are going through the same thing. Keep up the good work and keep posting on your progress. You'll learn to love and respect the people on this site so much that you won't want to let them down (and there you have your accountability Wink).

Consistency will be the key. My favorite quote about running, from Once a Runner (which is where my username came from), is:

"The only true way is to marshal the ferocity of your ambition over the course of many days, weeks, months, and (if you could finally come to accept it) years. The Trial of Miles; Miles of Trials"

I had trouble waking up at 4 this morning, but got up before it was too late. A cup of the new Pike Place roast and I was ready to go.

32 minutes, hilly course. 2min/1min Guessing 13:00s. Not feeling quite as "lactic" as yesterday, but a little worked. I imagine that I will be switching to 3min/1min sooner than expected.

I will open up my training log.

Breakfast: 2 servings of golean cereal and 8oz of soy milk. Total 340 calories. It's amazing how a meal this low in calories can be so filling. 20 grams of fiber probably has something to do with it.

I am late to seeing this, but want to throw my hat in for those who sincerely wish you all the best. My favorite quote in a while is below at the very bottom of my screen name crap...

best to you~

Well I'm sure it will stabilize soon, I could have either been retaining water or "otherwise backed up."

Today was another day with good and bad. Overall, I think it was a positive as far as my fitness goals are concerned.

I never got to run on my lunch break. I got called at work by my wife because my mother in law had to be rushed to the emergency room (severe intestinal/stomache pain) so I went to assist. So I had peanuts and beef jerky from the hospital vending machine for snacks/dinner. She's staying overnight, they still haven't diagnosed her.

I had to go home (someone had to take care of the dog), so I just got back from running with the dog.

We both had to release some pent-up energy.

I broke my "no garmin" rule. I also broke my walk/run plan by running the entire time. I also ran the last 800m at 9:15.

While it was by no means healthy to run like I did tonight, I think it is a psychological positive to know that I still "have it" (or at least part of it).

No more of that 9:15 crap for a while though.

Hi, Miles. Just wanting to let you know that we haven't forgotten you.

Hope your m-i-l is okay. And you too . . .

They did surgery (she had appendicitis) and she is doing well. Still taking care of her and living off sub-optimal hospital food.

Going to go running today. I bought some new coolmax socks and a ProStretch thingy which is really cool.

I LOVE my pro stretch thingy..... I got one right after my heel injury. That thing is expensive, but a great stretching device. I like to use the heel cup in the opposite direction and place my toe box in it and stretch the front shins.... Very Helpful! This with my foam roller for my tight calves have helped me recover from shin splints very quickly. It's tough trying to run again even after a short rest. Your shins want to rebel almost immediately.

You will be glad you got the pro-stretch!

Yes, I am running tonight for sure. I actually ran yesterday, I just hadn't logged yet.

The ProStretch is indeed awesome. I would reccomend this to anyone who has lower leg/foot issues.

I transcribed Pfitzinger's basebuilding schedules from Road Racing for Serious Runners into spreadsheet form today. I plan to start the "build to 25 mpw" 10-week plan somewhat soon.

I am thinking about signing up for the road race series (starting late july and running through the end of the year). This is the same series where I got the singlet at last year that currently doesnt fit.

I also bought an ipod shuffle to help me get out in the morning.

5 miles in 56:33. 7/10 intensity. Pretty satisfied with this run.

Not so good on the nutrition side today though. I had this weird craving for a McDonalds fish sandwich (yeah, I said "weird") so I got one. Other than that, I ate on plan. It's 400 calories so I guess it's not that big of a deal. I doubt I'll want one of these for another couple of years or so, if ever. It wasn't very good.

I have been thinking about turning this thread into a blogspot or wordpress blog. Problem is I have a previous history of blog abandonment.
