Rick:
Thanks! First of all, don't worry too much about trying to stick with the pace. As I said in the actual e-mail, we would eventually have the range of pace--+45 seconds for slower pace and -30 seconds for faster pace; so it'd be quite a bit of range. It is because of the individual differences. This function is not quite set yet.
The one, during the conditionig, you should work on, besides the long run, would be "Out-and-Back". This is really one of the essense of Lydiard. But even then, the important thing is not so much trying to keep up with the suggested pace but to make sure you actually come back in the same time or perhaps a minute or two faster. If you can't do that, the pace is too fast and you'd need to adjust it.
It is a well-balanced program and someone like you would probably benefit quite a bit from it. At your level, also, you should seriously consider adding a morning jog if you hadn't yet. Just go nice and easy, even for 15~20 minutes a day. You'd be surprised how much benefit you'll gain from it. Of course, sometimes life gets in our way...
Good luck and have fun with it. I'll adjest it to 21-weeks and send it again.

Ennay, what is your ailment? Are you going to be at the Eugene Marathon?
Major one is a little over a year ago I had some nerve pain that we thought for about 6 months was hamstring but turned out to be low back followed by 6 months of illness followed by falling down cement steps 3 weeks ago. Its just not been a good 15 months. And no, I am running Boston this year since I kind of feel I may never qualify again.

Eddy: Good to see you back. Lydiard program is actually for 6 months--24 weeks. It is, however, a very basic training program but we (Lorraine Moller, Dick Brown and myself) are putting together more marathon specific program for our website (hopefully to be available soon). If you're interested (and, as Purdey know, once I figure out how to print it out), I can send you the basic program specific to your ability (I'll base it on your current 5k PR) and it'll show "suggested" pace for every single workout. It also shows priority for week's workout so as to show, if necessary, which one to skip. I don't know how to attach via RA e-mail so shoot me an e-mail if you're interested: nobby415@msn.com

I just wanted to let you know that I have been following the Lydiard training philosophy and I am enjoying it. Last month I ran a 16:54 5K, which is my first time under 17 minutes in about 5 years. I have not followed the exact schedule that you gave me, but I have used followed the basic idea. Most of my runs are negative split, but now I do at least one run a week where I start a little harder than usual and try to come back faster. I do one other faster session each week because I have a non goal marathon at the end of May before my goal race in early August. After the marathon, I will have 11 weeks left. At that time I will go into the next phase of training. Thanks for your help. I am enjoying the higher mileage I have been doing and now 10 miles seems like a short run. I have not run 2 times a day very much, but I hope to be adding that next week.
Thank you for taking the time to read my signature!
Nobby, I have over 9 months until my target race next August, so I am going to be following the Lydiard plan again. I've printed off one of the articles from Lydiards lectures. I am going to run based on time for a few months. I have a few 10Ks planned to keep me motivated and break up the training. This will also be my form of speedwork for a while. Starting in May, I will go into the other phases recommended. I like a lot of McMillan's training as well, and may mix in some of that. If you have any suggestions for now, I am always welcome to them. For now, it will be all about continuing to build that base.
MTA: I followed the schedule you gave me last year, but got a stress fracture 2 months before the event. Fortunately, I was still able to run the event and did well because I had such a strong aerobic base.
Giddyup.
I miss Eddy.
I mean, Bearcat's stuff is interesting too, but there's only one Eddy.
