A woman went for a run at Jay Blay park in Orlando last night and hasn't turned up since.

This really makes you open your eyes... I run in the same park. That could be me.

Edited to add: The body has turned up.

Oh my God.

I've never had that put into perspective for me like that. I've always left the door, (or in the case of Jay Blay, the car), thinking... "well, hopefully if I ever get attacked, it won't be TODAY..." because I've never carried any sort of anything on my run. It'll never happen to me... well that could easily have been me.

Poor woman...

Kinda makes us all take a moment to think....unfortunately we can never let our guard truly down. I hope they catch whoever did this. Just makes me so angry that this shit happens.

I would SERIOUSLY stay away from that park for a while - you never know when a serial killer/rapist might be on the prowl for runners and walkers. Find a new joint to visit and never be unprepared!

Is that park near the orange bowl stadium? I was there in December for a college football game..if it is in the same area the park was great but the area around it was pretty scary..I didn't run for 3 days while I was there because my hotel owner didn't recommend it... All I can say is carry pepper spray or run with a dog and be aware of your surroundings

You mean the Citrus Bowl? That is a HORRIBLE area. Not only is downtown pretty shady, but the stadium is on the OBT (Orange Blossom Trail), and that's the most... notorious road in Central Florida. Bad stuff there.

Blanchard park is a good 20 minutes from the Citrus Bowl, and that's on highways and such.

Sorry to hear about that poor woman. It's always a sad reminder of the world we live in.

But this should be a reminder to ALWAYS pay attention to what's going on around you. Just because an area is nice or not so nice should not be reason to flip your "pay attention switch" on or off. Two days ago, in my town, a young man was shot in the chest as he was getting into his car after work. In a nice middle to upper-middle class area.

Remember criminals drive too. If you wanted to rob someone, would you do it in a rich neighborhood or a poor one?

A runner in my area was attacked on Sunday morning at 945. The attacker struck her from behind and then pulled her into an embankment. She survived but they still haven't found the rapist/attacker yet.

This was in an upscale neighborhood, too.

I've been finding myself looking over my shoulder, wishing I had a 'rear view mirror'..

Always a good time to mention " The Buddy System". While not always an option for some, I am so thankful that when I started this thing called Running, It made my Hub get off his butt too for the reason of him not wanting me to be out alone on my runs. I am so glad he did....

RIP Lovely Lady Runner. You didn't deserve that.... Cry

Just an FYI for Just Marion. They make rear view mirrors for cyclists that attach to helmets and hats. You might check out your local bike shop and be surprised at how easily you can have that mirror.

Oh that's so horrible. Poor Nicole and her family. My thoughts and prayers will be with them.

I hope there's running in heaven. And that justice will be served.
