    State Obesity Rankings

Wow. How did your state do?

Not sure of the criterias but my guess is that there are fewer RA peeps in MS and AL.

Time for me to keep running so we can get IN moving in the thin direction.

"He conquers who endures" - Persius
"Every workout should have a purpose. Every purpose should link back to achieving a training objective." - Spaniel

I live in Alabama and I'm not surprised at all by its place in the rankings.

I'm doing what I can, though, to get more people out running...and here on RA Smile

      Upcoming plans:

      Tahoe Rim Trail 50 M (July 16)

      Hot To Trot (August)

Woods Ferry 24 Hour (Labor Day weekend)

      Georgia Jewel 50 M (Sept 24)

      Pinhoti 100 (November 5)

Is a low or high in the "rank" good or bad?

I need to know because I'm heading out for lunch and this will definitely change what I order....

Always do right. This will gratify some people and astonish the rest.
This study is nonsense. My state of Maine is definitely fatter than this.

mr train you are a pain, your words - they make me go insane

they strike my ever-thinking brain like little drops of acid rain

oh, to my life you are a bane; crazy, mixed up, mr train - r2e

          lace 'em up!

I think 1 is the most obese.

            I du! (+CX +Mtn.)

What is interesting is that WI has always had this notoriety of being such a fat state, yet is 25th.  MI is 9.  I would love to see the correlation of economy vs. obesity.  MI has the highest unemployment in the nation and has for several years.  I don't think we were in the top 10 most obese states a decade ago when we had far more jobs than people to fill them, record low unemployment and a booming economy.

              • more off-road

              • gain proficiency @ CX mounts and dismounts (ie stop leap-frogging w/people who ride slower after every obstacle -- finish further up the field)

              No offense.

                Hawai'i is #47.

You may think this is obvious what with the hardbodies on the beach.  But many of those folks are imported.

The largest people I've ever met are in the aloha state.  (then again, so are the buffest, so I suppose it averages out)

                Ultima tastes like failure.

                More Cowbell!

I live in Alabama and I'm not surprised at all by its place in the rankings.

I'm in Alabama, too.  I'm not the least bit surprised.

                  I haven't a map of the 2009 data, but here's 2008.

                  20th Century: Is ancient history
                  21st Century: 5k: 19:42 |10k: 43:00

everything averages out for the most part.  so I can paint with a wide wide brush and be generally correct

                    poor = fat

that's behind some of it.  and probably has affacted Michigan over the past 20 years.  Wisconsin has plenty of hefty people squeezed into Brett Favre jerseys.  OK, now they bought new larger Prince Fielder jerseys.  Since Prince is 5'11" and 265 pounds we can all look the part right up until we swing a bat.

but then again... I'm overweight since my BMI is well over 25.  so I shouldn't be one to talk.  But I can say I've run 17:46 in a 5k while being overweight.  so at least I've got that going for me.  Now hand me some cheese!

2012 goal = 4:59 for 1,500 meters. (before then just get healthy)

                    Prince of Fatness

NJ is ranked 42.  That's not bad.  Maybe the politicians are smart after all.  Tax the crap out of the people so they can't afford food.

There is a long dark road ahead of me.

Mass is the second leanest, losing only to Colorado.  I guess snowboarding and skiing from August to June keeps you trim.

                          Massachusetts - 50

                          Connecticut - 49

                          Rhode Island - 48

                          Hawai'i - 47

                          Vermont - 46

One popular theory is that obesity is inversely proportional to government corruption and directly proportional to the number of days of sunshine in June, except for Maine where they grow potatoes and Hawai'i where the food they feed you to make you fat is poi. Have you ever tasted poi?

                          How do you spell orange?

Hmmm.....well I'm in VT and 16 out of the 30 days in June brought rain.  Just sayin.

                            A Saucy Wench

Oregon (#28 ) is by far the most bi-polar state I have ever lived in.  They have more lean runnerly types than Ohio, Indiana, PA, Texas....but also seem to have more morbidly obese.  There seem to be very few people in that comfy midwest "just a tad overweight" category that I associate with pretty much anyone over 40 in my childhood memories.

I have become Death, the destroyer of electronic gadgets

                              No offense.

                                Poi kicks ass.
