I went in October, and while I would suggest avoiding the Waterford Regional Hospital (not because the care there was bad, just because who really want to get an appendectomy on vacation?), I would suggest visiting St. Stephen's Green in Dublin ... not sure how green it will still be now, but in October it was dazzling. If the exhibit of Steve Bloom's nature photography is still up, it's worth the visit regardless of how the rest of the park looks.

I'd also suggest visiting Gledalough in the southern part of the country. It's an ancient monastary, and you'd be surprised to see just how much of the original architecture, now approaching 1,000 years old, is still up. Amazing stuff, they don't build like that anymore.

Go, go, go ... just make sure no one in your travel party needs surgery while you're there.

I'm thinking about it. I need to get my passport ASAP...rumor has it that it can take up to 8 weeks to get back.

There is a way to speed the process, though. Costs a little more money, I believe, but it is possible to get a quick turn-around if necessary.

Glad that you're thinking about it! It'll be a great adventure (even the cold, side-ways rain). Big grin

DH got it expidited. It cost him close to 300. and it took about a week. Course that was back in Jan. Not sure if you can do that for just traveling for vacation though.

Looks like this will be my x-mas gift to myself. Confused

I may not have to get it expedited - they may not go until early Feb. They are still working on their exact plans.

You might want to talk to the Post Office. From what I understand it can be 3-4 months.

    VERY COOL x-mas gift!

Echo the St Stephen's Green and Glendalough recommendations. The monastary was awesome! The drive down isn't bad at all. I couldn't find anything wrong anywhere I went in Dublin... Was made to feel welcome everywhere. Definitely plan on time in the pubs...oh, and get ready to sing!

Looks like I'm heading to Ireland. My husband called my aunt and uncle (without my knowing) and they discussed all the plans. We're going for 10 days in March. Yes

Remind me of that when I'm practically in tears when I have to leave my husband and children behind...I wish we could all go.

I'm thinking that I'll have to find some new friends in Ireland to go out and have some drinks with. Smile
