And you, sir, officially took fifth overall in the 25K...AWESOME! Way to go! Hey, I was 28th in "sex place"! My highest finish ever in THAT event! Lynn B

      Into the wild

It sounds like you guys had a great night out! I would have liked to have been there to enjoy the party...maybe next year! Well done to all....nice pics.

Turn the TV off, get out of the house, and RUN

(I am still working on English as my first language.) Course Details The inaugural El Scorcho consisted of a very flat 5K loop with 2 aid stations at Trinity Park in Fort Worth, TX. There were two versions run this night; a 25k and 50k. I thought the course was very nice, but it did have more asphalt and concrete sections then I was originally expecting. As mentioned by the other guys, they could have had more lighting. A head lamp would have been useful for more that 10% of the course. North Texas had plenty of rain the past few weeks, but you could not tell. Side note: If you ever visit Fort Worth and have young children along, you might want to take them to this park. I seem to recall they have a little kiddie train there that runs through the park and to the city zoo. Prerace While exiting the packet pickup gazebo, I came across tschepsit. We had a short chat and then split up looking for the other 2 RA’ers. I spot jlynnbob near the starting line and he introduces me to his coworkers and some people from the North Texas Trail Runners club. For some reason, I seemed to be out of it mentally already. My initial impression of jlynnbob is that he seems to be fairly enthusiastic about this whole running thing. I am definitely sure he will glow more and be even more enthusiastic as he gets older. He was throwing out names of some ultrarunners from this board (Free publicity folks) prior to the race. Walking back to my vehicle to grab a camera, I bumped into another RAer, Bonkin (Dude, I thought I said dude a lot Tongue). Bonkin looked a lot skinner in the flesh; maybe cameras add a few pounds. Minutes before the race, jlynnbob’s friend takes a few photos for us. The Race The first 10.5 Miles, I ran and jibber jabbed along with Bonkin. He was a good non-virtual partner. Absolutely, no beeps or boops from this guy (maybe a couple toots here and there though Smile… good thing we were moving). 7.77 miles in (that’s what the Forerunner 305 said), tschepsit passes us up for the first time. 8.5 Miles, some guy recognizes me and I have no idea who it is (Runners’ dementia is in full swing). I later realized it someone I went to University with. I did not even recognize him, but it looks like lost some weight since back there and from the results he is up there in the speed demon category with tschepsit. I wish I could have caught up with him prior to the race. After 10.5 miles, my gut, groin, and kidneys started going crazy. Dead I burped a few times, slowed my pace down, and watched Bonkin zip on. Body began signaling the brain with a warning, “dude, you are getting seriously dehydrated and need to chill”. Not sure why my body was acting up, but maybe it had to do with not drinking any fluids 2 hours prior the race. At every aid station, I had been pulling in 2 drinks, lukewarm nuun and cool water. The nuun was somewhat carbonated which may have contributed to my gut hurting. I saw tschepsit pass me for the second time around 11.5 miles in. At this point, my brain held a special session and decides I should start run walking. Few minutes later, I started back up to a run and this police cruiser (okay golf car) decides to turn on this insanely bright spotlight. The light just blinds me and I veered off the course along with this super fit Asian dude who ended up tripping over a mound of dirt. Finally, the officer shuts the light off and I avoid the mound. Shortly after this, the outer side of my left knee starts acting up (ITBS?). The same knee had caused me trouble the prior week. At the 12 mile mark, I noticed that my feet were swelling. The final 5K, I do not remember much except that I did not want to see 3:00:00 on the timer at the end! tschepsit thanks for encouraging me as I rolled through for the final lap, but I was too phased out in the zone to notice you. Closing my first 25k, Bonkin and tschepsit were there to congratulate me and remind me to get my timer tag clipped off! Thanks guys. (By the way, are bloody nipples some part of the initiation process?) Post Race I chomp down on some oranges and start drinking a bunch of fluid. A bit later, I start to feel as if things are not right. I cut out from the group to rest at the gazebo, where they had the BBQ and others goodies. Oops, I forgot to inform the other dudes. This is where the whole vomitisis began. I took a few steps away from the gazebo and just let my stomach evacuate its contents . I decided to head on home about 15 minutes later. Driving home was awful. My hands became numb (thinking my body chemistry was messed up) and I started getting the nauseated again. Somewhere along the highway, I had to pull over for round two of vomiting Tight lipped. Thankfully, I did not have any stomach issues after that. In the end, I am just glad I finished. Much respect to all you RA dudes... -tschepsit, you really are fast guy. 1:50, Wow! Shocked -Bonkin... dude… I got beat by former smoker who has over 10 years+ on me. Black eye -jlynnbob, 50k? You went the distance! Can you post a picture of your 50k star? Cool Without this forum, I would not have heard of this race or even considered participating. When I saw Bonkin post he was signing up, I was like what the…. yeah… maybe I should go ahead and give it a go. Next year? I would entertain running the 25K. Smile

Hi! I'm new to this message board. I was just reading everyone's race reports and I'm glad that you enjoyed the race! I could not run the El Scorcho race due to Achilles tendinitis injury, but I am so happy I was there to watch, be inspired, and help out whenever I could. I currently work at Fort Worth Running Company and am so thankful that everything worked out smoothly (that I know of). Smile

Nice to see another RAer from the Tarrant County here. Cool How'd you hear about the site? Bonkin perhaps? modal

Welcome, Cheryl! You were the nice person helping my wife pick some running shoes on Saturday afternoon. Sorry to hear about your injury, but thanks very much for helping to make El Scorcho a great race - it was a lot of fun!

Great report, Modal! And yes, it is part of the initiation process! Big grin If you are up for it, sign up for Too Hot to Handle (15k) next weekend! It's too short to cause bloody nipples!

Pictures are up at http://cowtowncameragirl.instaproofs.com/. Thankfully, the only picture of me actually running is blurry. I guess I have that effect on cameras.

All the top 25k finishers look skinny! I ran last night and my knee is still funky so I am probably not going to run the too hot too handle race.
