Monday of race week
Sleep: 6.5 hours.
Mood: irritable
Excercise: Rest!

Woke up early and was refreshed so I just got up.

I am having doubts about my goal of 4 hours again. A week ago I was positive I could do it. I feel I am in good enough shape to break 1:40 in the half.

Aches:....
Left lower leg from lateral malleolus to mid calf... feels better than it did yesterday. I think whatever the massage stirred up is getting better. I didn't hurt when I ran yesterday. Thinking back I did roll my ankle just barely on a stone last week wed so prehaps that has something to do with it? Also it is the same thing that is related to the foot sweeling I had earlier in my training... so it could have just been something still lingering from that minor injury.

Right hanstring. felt great durrning my run. Feeling better. Still a bit tender to probing. I will do a couple more sessions of deep self massage today and tomorrow and then leave it alone the rest of the week. It is feeling better and better. Yesterday night deep self massage session (while watching TV) was less painfull than the previous nights session.

Morning weight: 149.8

Breakfast
Natures Path Rebound & Skim milk
OJ

-- Coffee--

Lunch
Soft taco (ground meet & taco seasoning, shredded lettuce, salsa, whole grain tortilla)
Activa plain yogurt with ground flaxseed and some fresh pineapple
handfull of baby carrots
2 sticks of cellery... and a tiny dab of natural PB
1 small piece of apple (sliced one up for the 6yo and snagged 1/8 or the small apple)...

-- coffee --

ok after my lunch I am feeling more optimistic again. I feel like my brain is funneling to the realization that "what will be will be"... and to just trust myself. I almost feel like I should believe myself and just run my race and how it comes out it comes out...

Dinner
Alot of rice... white and also pork fried rice... some funky Tofu stuff with brown sauce and peas and carrots... some shrimp low mein, 3 sweet and sour meatballs, 1 small piece of general tso chicken, handfull of baby carrots, 2 celery sticks, salad bowl of butter (red and green) lettuce with cracked pepper and balsamic vinegar (no oil)... about 10 chuncks of pineapple, 1/2 an orange, and a foretune cookie. Black tea.

Race planning
My race plan today is to run the 1st mile and try to stay easy... I figure I can warm up some on my shuffle to the starting line... ease into the first mile... the first mile goal should be to warm up and get relaxed... and ready for the first hill...

Hills on course

1-2 down hill 50 ft... relax... think free pace.... not extra pace...
2-3 100 ft climb... gradual don't over run this mile...
5... no hill but make a mental note about the wind... because you will be seeing this same wind at mile 19
10.5 60 ft hill... nothing... just don't crank up this hill... relax... also don't blow down the back side... relax though this one... don't worry about lost time...

16-22 gradual down hill... let the legs roll... it will be the most scenic part of the course... don't get carried away and go running any sub 8's but (note remember that after 19 you are on the shoreway and there might be wind...

23-24 last 80 foot climb... ok Johnny if you feel it you can let it all out here and finish strong... there is a water stop in there too... ??? going by browns stadium I think I have run this hill before in the turkey trot...

a couple turns and you are there... only 2 and a bit to go... go for it...

ok... so that breaks into

begining
first hill
shoreway
turn back to hill
hill to 1/2 turnaround
chester to downhill
downhill through state park
----------------------------------------------------
shoreway and 19 mile mark
Browns stadium hill
Home stretch

(line denotes 1/2 way for dosing my energy)

I like Cleveland's course - I ran it the first year with the new course (2004) and it was my first BQ.

I wish I'd been there to hear that as the line started forming in front of the finish line. No idea what I'd have done about it, but I wish I'd heard it in person instead of 3rd party.

Accuweather has a 15 day forecast. If you haven't been checking the weather every half hour from 15 days out, it shows you just don't care about your marathon Big grin

Are you in the Cleveland area? Do you have any time goals for the marathon?

4 things...

1 in laws
2. card
3 horse
4 to see or not to see

1.) Inlaws are going to come down and cheer for me someplace on the course... I think they are going to be out there past the 1/2 way point... pretty cool!

2.) I had been doing a yoga class on tues nights with my wife. Mostly women older than me. The sent a card to me wishing me luck. My wife gave it to me this morning as our neighbor (who is in the class as well) gave it to her while she was down getting the kids on the bus... The whole class signed it! Pretty cool!

3.) The horse:... I read once a runner and the part about the hourses running with them I thought was really cool. Well this morning I had a similar experience... on my way home down my street I was running and heard the horse trotting by me... I looked over and he/she was looking right at me galloping along. Faster than me but it was cool.. .then he/she ran up to her usual place (where I normally see him/her standing) and I looked over at her and said out loud, "Thank you!". And he/she nodded. At that very moment she ran up on me I was having doubts about my goal and it was as if he/she was saying "you can do it".

I have run by the horse many times. Today was the only time this happened! It was very cool!

4.) I am debating if I should go down and take a trolly tour of the marathon course or not. I took a buss tour of Parkerburg 1/2 course and it helped me mentally throughout the race. I think I will post this quesiton on a separate thread...

------

Man that horse thing was cool!
