Your marathon race taper: Madness, Magic or Misery? (Read 63 times)

LRB

Looking back on your goal marathon of 2014 (or from years prior), how would you characterize your training cycle and specifically your taper?

Did injury or fatigue play a factor or did you hit it out of the park?

My taper was roughly 10 days and despite feeling like complete crap three weeks out right up until a few days before the race, I arrived at the starting corral feeling the best I had in weeks.

Should I decide to run another one of them stupid things () I may follow the same protocol, but am interested in hearing about other experiences and ideals.

Um... I had a six-week "taper" because of an injury.  Yeah.  That didn't work out so well.

Taper plan for my last one was to get injured 9 days before the race, then not run at all until race day. Then collapse after mile 22. Try that, YMMV. You're welcome.

Ah, a poll! I did a 3 week taper for a spring marathon, which in retrospect I think was too long. Then I did a 2 week taper for a fall 50k, which felt better, so maybe a bit of both.
