No way, man...I still *heart* that song.
That song sticks w/me for DAYS, and is Number 1 on "Q's all-time Most Hated Song List". Also appearing on the list are:
Red, Red Wine - UB40
Little by Little - Robert Plant (I think it was the video that pissed me off most though. MAN, I hated that vid)
Sunglasses at Night - Corey Hart
We Built this City - Starship
I think we're alone now - Tiffany
All songs by WHAM!
There's plenty more, btw. But the 80's were not kind to the music industry.
Except for
THIS GUY

You'll get no debate from me on that count. I LOVE that guy! Purple Rain might be the best album ever!

The 80's ruled! Probably 90% of the music on my ipod is from the 80's.

"With the exception of 2, I believe all of those songs were from the 70's. What a cheesey decade that was."
Actually, MacArthur Park was originally done in 1968. It was covered in the mid-70's (~77-78-) and set to a disco beat by the queen of the mirror ball herself, Donna Summer.
As for the '80's..."Every Rose has it's Thorn." And who could forget, "Danger Zone?"

You all fail. Miserably.
The worst. song. ever. has to be something that makes you immediately change the dial. Something that literally makes you nauseous.
Not something you guiltily hum along to when you're alone in the car.
And I know you people are singing along to Tiffany and Wham! and Corey Hart. And "Red, Red, Red Wine?" Please. You know it by heart. You rap to it. You secretly think its cool.
Only two songs in this whole thread come close. "Seasons in the Sun" is depressing enough to be bad, but I know some of you are humming that one, too. The clear winner so far is " We Built This City." That is an empirically bad song. How Grace Slick ever sunk that low is one of the great mysteries in life.
But you still fail. Keep trying. I want bad.
I just heard "Endless Love" in the grocery store and was tempted to nominate, but found myself humming the tune halfway home. So I fail, too.
There are worse songs. Find them.
And I can't believe you dissed Verve Pipe. Please.

3. "MacArthur Park," Richard Harris - Who in their right mind would leave a cake out in the rain? And what does it have to do with the park?
The chorus of that song is a strong candidate for dumbest lyrics ever:
MacArthur's Park is melting in the dark
All the sweet, green icing flowing down
Someone left the cake out in the rain
I don't think that I can take it
'Cause it took so long to bake it
And I'll never have that recipe again
Oh, no!

Agreed. A lot of what's been listed actually fall under the category of guilty pleasures. Take something that hasn't been mentioned yet, like "Magnet and Steel" by Walter Egan. Has there ever been a dumber lyric than "You are a magnet and I am steel"? Probably not. (The backing vocals are done Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks of Fleetwood Mac, BTW).
I'm having a hard time coming up with anything as horrifying as "We Built This City."
But as a hard-core Beatles fan, it pains me to say that there's one song at least as bad -- Paul McCartney and Michael Jackson's cringe-inducing duet, "The Girl is Mine." Maybe not a big enough hit to qualify for this list, but every time I've ever heard it, I've curled into a fetal position while screaming, "WHY, PAUL? WHY?"

There are worse songs. Find them.
"Nothing Compares To U" Sinead O'Connor - Euro MTV went haywire over this one. Depeche Mode, Sinead O'Connor, MC Hammer, Sinead O'Connor, U2, Sinead O'Connor, ad nauseum. Emphasis on the nausea.
"Kokomo" The Beach Boys - Oh, how the mighty have fallen. Daddy took the T-Bird away and now they're singing about a small city in Indiana.
"West End Girls" Pet Shop Boys - This song single handedly set gay rights back 10 years
"Final Countdown" Eurpoe - Is there a magician ANYWHERE that doesn't use this for his/her theme music?
And...
Wait for it...
"I'm looking for Freedom" David Hasselhoff. I was stationed in Germany when the wall came down and was in Berlin during the HUGE, GiNormous party they threw. It was referred to by the Berliner Morgen Zeitung as, "The German Woodstock." Woodstock had Wavy Gravy as an EmCee. Who did the schnitzelheads get? The most popular man in Germany - David Hasselhoff. This song did absolutely nothing in the US. It went platinum in Germany, staying at number one for 3 weeks or so. From the album "Night Rocker" which has, quite possibly, the worst cover ever.
For worst album - "In a Metal Mood," Pat Boone. Not so much heavy metal, as weighty brass. It's not within the scope of the thread, but it deserves mentioning, nontheless.

While those my be considered bad songs, I wouldn't even consider them for worst songs. "Seasons in the Sun" and "We built this City" make a person cringe.

Humming, singing or keeping any of these songs on the radio whilst in my presense for more than 3 seconds will earn you a throat punch.
