Does anyone NOT rotate 2+ models of shoes? (Read 692 times)

Registered for #2
Just wondering. I really only have one model of shoe that I love (lightweight NB 902...mild stability "performance" trainer)...my runs in my other two shoe models always leave me Undecided (they aren't nearly as flexible as my 902s and I think this is my primary issue...my lower legs always tell me after 2-3 miles that they don't approve)

I know one school of thought is to rotate between 2+ models of shoes to help vary the stresses on one's legs/body, but right now I love my primary shoe so much that all other shoes send me *running* back to them.

For those who do wear only one model (perhaps rotating between 2-3 pair of said model), have you had any issues doing this? What sort of mileage are you doing? Any biomechanical issues at play?

I've been considering a mild stability Saucony shoe (Progrid Guide) that I've been reading great things about...and it's supposed to be pretty flexible, so on paper it sounds good. But I'm not sure I *need* a second model. Perhaps once my mileage gets higher as I train for my marathon that will change, though. I kinda wonder how the 902 (or 903 once that is released) will hold up for me on longer runs--right now my longest run in them has only been a HM, but it was perfectly comfy at that distance.

I don't really care for rotating shoes. If I have two pairs that I can train in then, yes, I'll probably switch them off every so often but otherwise I just train right through a pair. It's worked for me thus far.
Just go with what your body is telling you. There are few definite truths in running and when, what, where, why, and how to use shoes is not one of them. Everyone is different.

That's a t-shirt worthy sentiment right there. Smile

Nobody frets over shoes like you do, sister. Just run, baby. If the 902's are working, just go with it. The 902's are a high mileage trainer. They'll hold up. I often have long stretches of time where I wear only one shoe, or rotate two of the same exact kind of shoes. No worries. No issues. If a shoe fits...well. Wink

3 pairs of Nike Pegasus 2007 and I rotate all three of them. White, Black and Black/Yellow (live strong model)

I see no reason to switch the type of shoe but I do see a reason to alternate shoes. I think you have to give the cushion time to bounce back after a run. I used to wear Asics but they changed the model too much on me that my feet started hurting.

I was going back and forth between my NB and my Asics but I stopped that. Now that I've kept with wearing my Asics 100% of the time I've not had any callus/blister issues.

I even tried a new brand of shoe (Saucony) and took them back after one trial run on the TM. I plan on sticking with my Asics for now, my feet are comfortable in them from the moment I buy them.

I think that's the thing that has had me a bit apprehensive...seems that half of the opinions of the 902 are that they are fine for up to a HM, but not so good beyond that...then the other half views them as perfectly adequate for a full marathon and beyond. I guess that's a bridge I will have to cross as I get to it. I'll have probably a better idea of their suitability after I train for my 25k.

Don't listen to anyone else when it comes to what a shoe is "good" for. It's all going to be dependent on the person.

Focus more on training, less on gear.

I rotate through about 5 different models at any given time, depending on what kind of terrain and distance I'm running. In long runs I'll occasionally even change shoes mid-run, say at mile 30 or so of a 50 miler (or if they get soaked by creek crossings like in the San Juan Solstice 50 mile). My feet are finicky and changing things up seems to help me a lot.

Everyone is different... gotta find what works for you and go with it.

Bundle up, it's cold
I am too poor (read: irresponsible with finances) to have more than one pair at one time.

It was my understanding that this (and maybe a sock or three) was all that is needed to get out and run. Evil grin

Hyperbole is the best.
After having some problems with an Asics Cumulus, I bought a pair of Adidas Supernova, it fit to me, so I bought (and almost retired) a second one, that right now I'm switching with the third pair, and the fourth is waiting in the cupboard.

Somebody said running should be simple, so if a specific pair fits to you, why change?

About the mileage I retire them at around 800-1000 km
Targets 2009:

1) No injuries
2) Keep having fun
3) A couple of PR's
