Does anyone NOT rotate 2+ models of shoes? (Read 692 times)

Good point.

It may be a middle age thing, but I seem to think there is always something better out there. Where or what I don't know. I really liked my first shoes, Mizuno wave rider 9. Then I thought I should give others a try. Then really really liked the Brooks Glycerin 5. So with liking the second pair better than the first pair what might the third or fourth pair I try be like. See somethings always better. Now the third pair Mizuno Precision 7 are also great, and so on and so on and.... At some point I( and you, the self proclaimed shoe whore) will stumble onto a bad pair and send myself running back to some of the the old faithfuls, hopefully it's not to late and they'll still take me back.

Ha, I get this! Actually, when I first started I was in a fairly moderate stability, lower-end shoe. When I decided that I was going to stick with running I moved up to a higher end, moderate stability shoe. That worked well for a good while. Then I bought a similar, cheaper shoe that was a little lighter weight...went through 3 pairs of that shoe. I've had a couple of shoes that haven't worked well, mostly due to fit issues. I'm always happy to go back to the old faithfuls when that happens. Big grin

I stumbled upon my current fave shoe when I was just looking for something lighter-weight and less bulky for shorter runs and races. Now all the shoes that used to work so well for me feel so stiff and clunky and actually cause me discomfort--even the shoe model I wore all last Winter and for my HM PR. It's really as if moving down the stability ladder (and into a very flexible shoe) has ruined me for those higher levels of stability. I even tried a neutral shoe for rotating, but it's a relatively stiff shoe, so I'm not sure if it's a stability thing as much as a flexibility issue. I seem to be unable to return to shoes with stiffer forefoots after wearing a very flexible one.

I read an article on him, where it was I dunno. I do remember, he said he ran 3hrs a day, everyday. and he ran in a circle.............so he wouldn't have to run against the wind for too long Big grin

Yeah. The same 1/3 mile circle. Over and over and over. Every day. For 2 -4 hours a day. Every day. Same circle. In a CEMETERY. There's a word for people like that. I think it's called "crazy."

I know the guy has set some amazing records and all but if at age 80 I'm running in circles in a cemetery for three hours a day somebody just push me a hole and throw dirt on me. Please.

Yeah, that. I'm already going nutso running the same routes on backroads until our paved rail trails are clear. I have miles of relative variety even without the rail trails and I'm still getting bored. A 1/3 mile circle...? I can't even fathom that.

ROFL Big grin This made me burst out laughing!!!!!
I'm not sure why you'd rotate in shoes that don't feel as good as your primary ones. I have a few pair of the same model (Brooks Adrenaline 6), and the only reason I am looking at others next time is that these got upgraded to the 7, and I'm not sure how much longer I'll be able to find the 6's. Another benefit of sticking with one model that you like is you can buy them on ebay or other discounted online sites without having to try them on.

That's easy. Because you didn't know they wouldn't feel as good when you bought them.

And you try new shoes because there's always the chance you'll find something a little better. Same reason you occasionally try something new at your favorite restaurant. Sure, you end up regretting it sometimes, and 8 times out of 10 you go with the safe choice ... but that new pasta surprise has possibilities. Besides, if you don't order it, your wife will, it'll be better than yours, and you'll be pissed the whole meal because she's eating what should have been your food and won't share.

I swear that made sense to me when I typed it.

I always have at least two pair going, usually 3-4 ... and at least one is always a safe shoe. I know perfectly well I could live forever in Asics 21XX shoes. Loved the 2120s and I'm loving the 2130s. But every time I go shoe shopping ... I ask for new options. Because there just might be something better.

Just in case. So far, I'm digging my Brooks Adrenalines (but they're still not as good as the fettucini alfredo.).

This also explains why actors dump supermodels. Same principle.

Man I hate when that happens...that's it I'm buying 2 new models of shoes today.
Opps, I married a Vulcan
You guys must have a lot of old shoes around. I NEVER rotate mine, and have many myself. I go 400 miles and then they become walking shoes.

Yep. And your restaurant analogy is excellent. Damn, now I'm hungry... Blush

Heck, I found my 902s when I was just looking for something different to alternate with my primary shoes for a run or two each week.
