Now, I've never done it and I have no immediate plans to do it, but it occurred to me that during long distance races, there are a lot of people who lose a lot of time spending time in the washroom. It seems to me that someone competitive might be tempted to wet his/her shorts just to gain those extra 2-3 minutes. How about you? Or is there a rule that prohibits this kind of behavior?

I would give thought to peeing in a rainy race. Just for the HTFU points.

Well, I don't foresee ever doing that...unless...

I was in the position where it would mean the difference between winning or losing an important race or an endurance event (and a mid-packer like me is not gonna be in that position). I've done about 20 races up to Half Marathons, but never had a strong urge to go during any of them, so maybe I've been lucky! I think most people would treat a 2 minute stop at the port-o-let as inconsequential in an endurance race like a 30K or longer, which might take several hours.

From the pics I've seen of people relieving themselves off the side of the road during a race in public, it seems to be more important to follow the "no head phones" rules than to use a bathroom Shocked.

Hmmm...I would think peeing oneself could lead to some painful chafing. I don't think it's something I would try, personally.

Ah ... It'd be like, mostly water. Rain only, for rinsing.

There is the famous video of Paula Radcliff peeing on the racecourse. I was sorely tempted at a race last week when I was having trouble finding an open porta-pottie on the course.
The whole world said I shoulda used red but it looked good to Charlene in John Deere Green!!

apparently it's a fairly common occurance in some triathlons....I was watching one on TV a few months back and they actually showed the mens leader peeing as he was running. My 14 year old daughter happened to be in the room and was really grossed out

I think a more valid question to ask would be "Lets say you didn't want to waste 1-2min and you pissed yourself... would you come on here and brag about it?"

wouldn't it get down to your socks and you would just be swishing in it for the rest of the run? not to mention whatever is left over swishing in your undies! ewwwww.....

Maybe you should use a http://www.stadiumpal.com/what-makes-it-work.htm

The bag wouldn't work well for a long run. You could probably just run the hose down your leg and find some way to get it to drain away from your leg. Ladies though... you would have to come up with some other solution.

During the Wine Glass Marathon, October 2000, around mile 15 there was this dude the just wipped it out and relieved himself as he ran. He must have had some practice as it looked like his sneakers stayed dry. Shocked

I'd consider it IF there was a lot on the line like a BQ (for me that would be a huge deal - others less so) and the 90 seconds that it would take to make a pit stop was going to be enough to keep me from it.

I don't think I would come here and brag about.

If you have to pee, it;s because 1) you didn't relieve yourself right before the race 2) your overdrinking water before or during the race 3) possibly not drinking enough electrolytes which will move the liquids past the gut to hydrate and less to the bladder 4) if you're sweating then the kidneys will shut the water to the bladder
