What's the nicest thing anyone has said about your running? (Read 1722 times)

I was running down a street where a friend was walking. She looked at me and said, "boy, you are a long way from home!." What made me feel good was I was "only" three miles from my home, and I had two miles to go before turning around and heading home. Made me feel good about myself.

Hmm, well one time I was running along the road to my house and I saw my brother walking. When I got within range of him he told me that before he could see my face he thought I was a woman. That was odd.

The nicest thing I've gotten was when I was running on a treadmill in a gym due to the ridiculous rain in Orlando. Since there's a 30 minute limit and I was nearing the limit, the girl who was next in line for the treadmill was standing a little off to the side waiting for me to finish. When the time ended and I stepped off, she said to me "That was really impressive!" as I was walking away. I was puzzled.

This is not the nicest, but probably it's the funniest:

About 3 years ago I was at the local hs track running some intervals, when a hs pe class came out to do a few laps. A group of 4 girls was on the inside lane and one of them took off to beat her friends to the end of the straightaway. As she was running in lane 1 I was doing an interval in lane 8 and slowly passed her. One of her friends yelled out

"Hey, you can't even run as fast as that old man."

I guess it was a "compliment", but it was the first time I'd heard someone refer to me as "that old man." Sad
When I thought about it, I realized that a 15 year old might think anybody half my age is "old"... Smile

I like it when you see people and they say < how far you runnin'> you tell them and then they just shake their heads

My wife said she was proud of me. That's all the complement I need.

one time I was at work and somebody said "hey, do you run, I thought I saw you?. Before I could say yes somebody else said 'her, run, you'll see her in everywhere, she runs. I just smiled.

another time I was being introduced to someone and he said I know you, you run all the time. You're really dedicated. Again I just smiled.

Many times I run at lunch at work. Everyday I get back there is this guy on my floor that asks how much I ran for him (he's near retirement, overweight...) Then he goes around telling everyone he ran x miles today and everyone looks at him strangely and then he explains the joke.

It's just kind of funny

Joe Henderson teaches a running class on my campus, so I know him well and love talking with him. He said on Friday that he thinks a 4 hour marathon is well within my reach this fall. Hooray! I am thrilled! Joe says so!
coming up: Hartford marathon 10/11.

Cool! I'm on Joe's e-mail list - I love reading what he writes. It's SO helpful when someone says they think you can run faster than you think you can! During my 5k this morning, when I was getting tired, I thought, "JK says I can go faster!" and it helped. Thanks, JK! Smile

MTA: Three times this week, people have said, "I heard you ran a marathon!" LOL, where'd they get THAT idea? My son's barber asked if I did Boston. Big grin Big grin Big grin I take that as a compliment - no one would have asked me that two years ago! I look forward to the day when I can answer the question affirmatively.

Similar conversation at my local High Shcool track.
I run in the mid 7's and this hS guy comes up beside me:
"man, I hope I can run this fast when I'm as old as you..I mean, you're old to be...well, for your age age you just.." I advised him to take the shoe out of his mouth.
Then I lapped him.
57 years old bythe way!
Life is fun.

This weekend I set a PR in a 10k. I really felt good the whole race. I was in control the whole time. Never did I feel like I was running over my head...just on the edge of it. At the finish I gave it all I had left over the last mile and finished strong. After the race my mom (granted it was my mom and she's supposed to say nice things about my accomplishments but I think this time they were sincere) said that I looked good coming up the last stretch to finish. That I looked strong, in control, not about to die. I'm just glad my outside looked like the way I was feeling on the inside. A+ weekend.

I must have horrible running form because when I run on local streets people tell me even in a normal training run that I look like I am struggling. I have never received a compliment on my running. I think that is why I run without my shirt. It distracts people from my running form. Shocked

This is definitely the funniest thing anyone has ever said.

There is an amazing elderly Italian gentleman who lives across the street from me and last year he saw me coming home from a 10 mile run, and he asked me how far I'd gone and I told him, and he said, in his fantastic Italian-American accent.

"Oh. Honey. Take it easy the rest of the day" and then crossed himself. It was priceless.

These are so great. I guess the nicest thing I've ever been told is that I "look like a runner." For a former chubby kid whom the first graders delighted in calling "fatso" - that made my year. Smile

I've been told I look like a runner. I thought that was a great compliment. I am 6' 3" and 200 lbs. My neighbor told me yesterday,"You don't look as bad as you did last year, when you're running".

Well, Thanks Buddy!! He's a walker.
