A friend of mine is the local High School basketball coach. He's always been very athletic and is a very intense competitor. I was running through his neighborhood one evening when he and his wife were out for a walk. As I passed, he yelled, "Good job. You're my hero." At the end of that street another friend was working in his yard. He was a linebacker in college on a National Championship team (Div. II). As I passed he said, "I admire you." Having never been an athlete myself, I enjoyed the compliments.

I had a sort of unintentional "compliment" of sorts, just a bit ago. I had just finished 10 of 11 miles and was plodding my sweaty butt home. On the bike path I met up with about half a dozen emo/goth kids all dressed in black and on scooters and inline skates. One of the kids asked me "hey, how are ya'?"

I told him "tired...10 miles will do that to a person."

His eyes got like this ---> Shocked and he said "TEN MILES?!"

I replied "yep, and I did 15.5 last weekend."

Kid was speechless...then he yelled to his buddies, "hey, this lady just ran TEN MILES!!!" The guys were pretty impressed. The lone female looked bored. Tongue

I got my coworker to start running. This Saturday, while I was doing my longest run to date, I actually passed by him on the trail. He told me today that, before he could tell who I was, he thought, "That chick runs with great posture." I'll take it.

When I am on campus, sometimes the older folk will say "I should be doing that" as I run by.

"Nice arse!" - received just the other day (from a middle aged "lady") whilst out running - a great boost and maybe a hint that my weight loss is going ok!?

My 9YO son has friends with parents 10 years younger than I am. A few days ago he told me "You and Dad are old, but not really because you run." That seems like pretty good motivation to me.

Tonite I was out running on the paved rail trail. It's quite busy this weekend. Early in my run I met a family on bicycles and we all said hi. A few miles later I had turned around and met them again. The dad said "wow, you're covering a lot of ground."

Tonite's run wasn't my longest of the week, or anything, but compared to where I was 2 years ago in my running and to a non-runner it was a long way to go.

Great motivational thread, everyone!

Two comments I treasure from my running club were being called the Energizer Bunny and being complimented on my "usual metronome pace."

Hood to coast 2008 (this weekend) Mile 5ish of 6 of my second leg. Passing a few vans who were cheering their runners on mid course. It was near the end of the leg so some of the runners were starting to show it. Passed a van and they said "wow...she is running really smoothly" Big grin

I was told by a couple of my classmates that "my form looked good" and that they both wish they could look like that.

People always get impressed when I say I ran more than 10 miles. I guess not impressed really, more disbelief. Responses like "wow" or "that's really far" or just shake their head.
