It's similar with the Equestrian events there can't be many countries that can afford to enter a team and within those countries there can't be many individuals that can afford to enter the team, so it's money not ability that gets the medals.

yeah I knew a kid who was talented at basketball from a really young age. Australia didn't pay him squat and Italy offered him a starting pay of a million at age 21. Guess who left the country?
