Bob-
How does the firmware give you better signal? Shouldn't that require a new antenna?
Hey Alan,
The best way I can explain that is by using an analogy. Suppose you go buy a computer that has all the latest and greatest hardware technology. But then you load it up with software and programs that are crap and don't work well. You would say that that computer stinks, right, even though the hardware is good on it? But then suppose you upgrade that software with better software. Then the computer would work much better.
Most electronic devices these days are a combination of hardware and software, and the performance of that device depends on the quality of both of those things.
My brothers new car had performance issues from the day he bought it. All the tune-ups in the world didn't help it. Turned out to be a software problem that controlled the fuel injection.
