1. c --- combination as race x sounds better run. $30 is a bit steap for 5k and would expect everything 1st class.
2. B -- Ran part of 5k on grass and did not like it, asphalt ideal but concrete wont hurt you too much on a 5k.
3a. -- More Likely
3b. -- More Likely. Ran 5k last month and was pleasantly surprised with tech shirt and a tote for $17 Usually only get tech shirts for 10 mile + races and a definte "bonus" to help seperate from other 5k's.
Is the Professor a Race Director? Good Luck.
1) The most important criteria for me is the course so my answer is C.
2) I prefer roads for races so B.
3A) I'm just as likely to enter a race that has no age group awards as I am to enter one that has age group awards.
3B) I would be more likely to enter a race with a tech shirt than a cotton shirt. I'd be super-duper more likely to enter a race with different goodies like flip-flops, or a visor, or hat however.

Sure...
1. I'd go with the race that has the free T-shirt provided they have size XXL. Otherwise if they have a free breakfast or beers after the race, that would definitely sway me. The only other determinant is if I have any friends that want to run a race with me, then I'd be more likely to choose the one they want to enter.
2. Given equal course difficulties I would go grass except if the weather is bad/rainy, then I'd go concrete.
3A - Does not matter to me, if it has age group awards, great, but I don't even really look at that when entering (just as likely)
3B - I'd say more likely the tech shirt if they offer the shirt in my size.

Hi everyone - I help with a school project that I'm working on. I'm hoping that everyone here would be willing to take a minute of their time to complete a very brief survey. If you do not feel comfortable posting your responses on the forum, please feel free to email me at rschaffer2@gmail.com. 1) Race X and Race Y (both 5Ks) are scheduled on the same morning. They both cost $30 to enter. Race X offers awards (i.e., trophies or medals) for the top three in each age group (ten year increments), as well as technical t-shirts for the first 200 participants. Race Y offers a certificate to the winner of each age group (ten year increments) and a 100% cotton t-shirt. The two races take place equidistance from where you live, and are for charities that are meaningful to you. Assuming you want to run a race that morning, what is your largest determinant in choosing between Race X and Race Y? a) Age group award b) Race shirt c) Other (Provide response) 2) Now, assume entrance fees and amenities for Race X and Race Y are equal. Assume Race X is held on a grassy surface in a park, and Race Y is held entirely on a concrete surface. If the elevation of the races is about equal, which would you prefer? a) Race X (grass) b) Race Y (road) 3) Assuming two races have the same entrance fee and similar charities... A. Are you more likely, less likely, or just as likely to do a road race that has awards for the top three in each age group than a road race that does not? B. Would you be more likely, less likely, or just as likely to do a road race that offers a techinical/training shirt than a road race that offers a 100% cotton shirt? Again, thank you very much for participating! This will go a long way in helping me ace this course.

1) c. Better competition. If I get a shirt, either way, I don't think I would care.
2) a. Grass is softer and more fun to run on. But then again, you run faster on concrete so I might choose that if I was in the mood for a fast race.
3) A. If I was expecting to win or finish well, I might want something, if I know I don't have a chance, I don't really care.
B. I like tech shirts but I don't wear them that much since I don't run in shirts that often. A well-designed cotton t-shirt that I could wear around everyday.... that is preferable I think.
2) Road race.
3a) Just as likely
3b) Technical/Training shirt - I haven't owned one in over a decade, would be nice to have one
1: b I like the technical shirts. I have very little aspiration of placing in my old lady age group. I did once, but they never sent me the bronze medal...
2: road I don't like running on grass. It feels slower.
3a: just as likely
3b: just as likely
Hmmm. Narrow scope for so many possible variables in selection. Here is my 2 cents
1) c - depends on course, friends running, race reputation, and field
2) b - road
3) a - as likely
b - more likely (can always use another nice tech shirt - but what color is it?)
1: b 2: a (though if the choice were asphalt or grass I would probably lean towards the asphalt) 3A: equally likely...unless it were a REALLY small field. The odds of me placing in my AG are so miniscule, anyhow. 3B: more likely to choose the race with the technical shirt--I will actually USE those, rather than get tired of them piling up and giving them to Goodwill or as garage rags.

Same as the Zoomie
#1
c) other. A fast course and good competition are the biggest factors.
#2
a) Grass. Unless by concrete you meant asphalt, in which case b) Road.
#3A. Just as likely.
#3B. Cotton shirt.

I'd be more likely to run in a race that offers a discount for no shirt; generally speaking I don't worry about the shirt unless it's a race I want to show off that I ran (some of my marathons or ultras for example) or if they have a really cool design.
If I am going to get a shirt, I'd prefer a technical shirt over a cotton shirt, but it wouldn't sway my decision in which race I'd participate at all since other factors as mentioned above would hold a lot more weight.

Question:
1 -C - Other ----- Main reason I will run in a race is for a good course or good time after the race....
2 - B - Race B --- I am more comfortable running on the roads..
3 -A -- Doesnt Matter to me
3 -B -- Doesnt Matter to me --- I would prefer to get a break on the entry fee and not have a shirt.....I have two drawers in my dresser full of running T-Shits that I almost never wear and will probably get onther on on Saturday...
Champions are made when no one is watching
1) a. Age group award
2) b. Race Y (road)A. more likelyB. more likely
1) c) Other (Provide response) - what my friends were doing. Peer pressure is such fun. Awards don't enter my thoughts at all. 2) a) Race X (grass) b) Race Y (road)
I'll go with (a) grass unless you mean asphalt then I go (b) road. 3) Assuming two races have the same entrance fee and similar charities... A. Are you more likely, less likely, or just as likely to do a road race that has awards for the top three in each age group than a road race that does not?
just as likely B. Would you be more likely, less likely, or just as likely to do a road race that offers a techinical/training shirt than a road race that offers a 100% cotton shirt?
depends on the shirt - just as likely though really.
1. B - prefer the tech shirt.
2. B - definitely road
3 A - Yes
3 B - Yes
In small races I typically place in age group and sometimes am the only one in my age group. I'd prefer a 5 year spread to a 10 year spread because it make it easier.
Most likely not going to run a 5K anytime soon. They're too short.
