Turin Marathon

    Enjoy Turin and its  beauty!

Visiting Turin means choosing to be plunged in the culture, history and Italian tradition and running the Turin Marathon let live these aspects. The runners can give a look around and enjoy the warm welcome of Turin’s people who support and encourage them over the 42 kilometres.

On 16th November 2014 the climate is fair and suitable to run a marathon. The autumn’s colours cover the artistic splendours of the Turin and thousands runners meet in piazza San Carlo, the Turin’s cultural salon, where among historical cafes and high brand shops, take place the start for the marathon. A Bronze Horse (Caval ëd Brons) in the middle of this “piazza” and behind him two of the Turin’s richest baroque churches welcome the starters as they were in an open air museum.

After the start striking views on the right and the left of the course. The Mole Antonelliana, the city’s symbol, that houses the National Cinema Museum, unique of its kind in Italy, then piazza Vittorio Veneto, the Europe’s biggest colonnade square that leads to the river banks on the streets next to the Gran Madre Church where the tradition says that is hidden the secret of the Holy Grail.

Once in Moncalieri the runners will see the first Savoy Residence, the Castle of Moncalieri. After some kilometres they will find the famous Juve World, where the Juventus soccer team has its training sessions. A very cool place for the football’s supporters! And again a jump in the magnificence of the past with the view on the Palazzina di Caccia di Stupinigi, where the Savoy family spent some time for the hunting.

From here starts the return to Turin, the city of the large and straight boulevards, where running is very easy and the course runs fast under the feet.

A glance to the FCA (Fiat Chrysler Automobiles) before plunging in one of the greenest and most loved by runners areas and returning in the city centre through the slightly downhill corso Francia, welcomed by the clapping crowd, that is waiting for the marathon’s runners after taking part to the Stratorino race (7.5 km open to all) and to the Junior Marathon (the kids’ race).

And finally the so coveted finish line in piazza Castello, under Palazzo Madama, the historical place where in 1861 was proclaimed the Unification of Italy.

The Turin Marathon’s course develops on a single loop and this fact helps considerably the own race’s organization. The runners find the changing rooms, the bag’s deposit, the showers and rich final refreshment very close to the start and finish areas. Everyone who crosses the finish line receives a celebration medal and the participation diploma.

The days before running the marathon or the night just after it the runners and their friends can choose to live the night in the Quadrilatero area or in the city centre. Music, gastronomical specialties and wine can be the right background to a visit to the city and to the participation at Turin Marathon 2014.
