Hey, guys. I was out of town for a few days and missed this thread.
I'd like to ask you to come join us over at our
Virtual Racer's group.
We currently have 66 members who are interested in virtual racing (counting as having visited the group in the past half year) so I'd have to say that there are a number of RA folks (old and new!) who are interested in this idea.
Here's how the RunningAHEAD Virtual Race currently works:
Every month, if you run in a race, follow the links listed over in the group. These take you to a website designed by one of our group's admins, Daddyo. If your name is not currently listed (which it will be if you've done a Virtual Race before) then you add your name using the bottom form. Then, add your race results.
Every month, the race entries are compiled and posted. We currently have "divisions" for most of the popular racing distances, and other features are planned for this coming year.
If there's something you'd like to see in a virtual race, drop us a line in the group forum.
The deadline for races run in January is the end of the month.

I was looking for a decent somewhat local race for January. There a few options - now I have to pick one...and be ready to freeze!!!!

I am in for this.
My race for January:
1) 1/16/08
2) Wakefield, MA
3) Mystic Runners Weekly Wednesday 5K
4) 5K
5) Goal was to negative split each mile, which I did - finished in 22:17ish, way off my PR but it was pretty darn cold that day.

I currently have a race or two planned every month until August. I find it difficult to find a race I want to run in during August and December.
