Sore quads (Read 860 times)

Hi.  When I went for a run this morning, about 10 minutes into the run, I started experiencing a pain in my quads, right above my knee cap, kind of deep in the muscle.  It sort of got worse and worse for about next 20 minutes or so.  Then I felt a spot in my calf on the same leg.  What should I do?  Should I continue running or stop running for a while?
Need more info.  Is it both quads? Any pain when not running? My first thought is cramps but rare to have on both sides at same time. If there is no pain at rest or walking,  I personally would try a comfortable run tomorrow and see what happens. If I were to notice any pain again, I would walk home!

Great question, you will want to focus on nothing but 400 meter hill repeats at 200 meter race pace.

Ha!  That would be cool.  But, alas, no.  Not yet.

I was just being mysterious via haiku.  It doesn't mean anything; it's a reconstituted wtf nonsense haiku I got off some 1960s comedy album. Except that the real one from the record isn't haiku-y enough.  It went:

                        Leaves no tracks

Which, in the strange context of the record, was quite funny. But it isn't 5-7-5 and that always bummed me out.

I think that's code for follow the FIRST program, and run barefoot.

Seriously, Nobby. Based on youe knowledge, I think you know the difference between a pain you can run through and one which you need to stop. Perhaps you just need to take it easy (or easier) for a few days to see if the pain subsides. Or perhaps a day or two of swimming or biking . Try some self-massage, followed by ice.

Good luck! I know pains like that can be worrisome.

Now we have devolved into preemptively mocking (and discouraging) novice running questions.  Why?
