Quote from Jeff on 11/13/2006 at 10:17 PM:Hey Jake, I'll be running the monkey, too. Hope to meet you there...will you be wearing the gorilla suit or a sock like the marathon junkie?
Hey, Jeff:
I didn't know you were a Nashvillian! What's your screen name over at the HHFMM site?
Definitely no sock here. A little chilly for that. Serious shrinkage issues. And that dude is just plain nuts. I'm planning on ambushing him at one of the intersections and tripping him anyway.
See you on Sunday! Save me a warm spot and a chair at the end. I expect to show up right about the time they start giving out the door prizes ... assuming I show up at all.

Ah - you're the one who's got this down to a mile-per-mile science, right? Have you added possible snow and monkey attacks into your mathematics?
I assume you'll be tracking your splits. It'll be interesting to see how close they come to your pre-race calculus.
Man, if this weather holds it's gonna be a great run. Miserable for the 3 or 4 spectators maybe - but nice for running. |

| I think I'll take Dallas' advice and "chunk" the race and not fret if I'm too far off on one split or another--but don't you think it's normal to check your mile splits in a marathon? Will you be checking your splits? |

Jake,
Remember everything you always tell other people (about forgetting time goals etc...), run hard, have fun, dodge the monkeys and tell us all about it afterwards!

Sure, I'll be checking and I have a very, very rough idea of where I'd like to be. And if I was in your league, I might be a little more interested. But I ain't ... so I ain't. I just want that first sub-4:00 marathon - and it ain't happening at the Run With The Monkeys. My last 16-miler in PW makes me think I might do okay, might even PR it (with a 4:20 PR, that's not saying much!); then again, my legs may be shredded by mile 25 that I'll be happy to stumble home.
Fun is what I'm looking for. At the CMM in April, on the other hand ... well, I'm out for revenge. That race kicked my ass last year. I'll be taking that one a lot more seriously.
Besides ... you're assuming our dear race director actually set the mile markers accurately. Color me skeptical. I wouldn't put it past him to mess them up on purpose, for his own amusement.

That's the fact, Jack. Amen, brother. |

| I think you're right--fun should be the motif. Well put. Liked your comments to the newbie on length vs. speed on the other thread. Good stuff. |

Quote from Jeff on 11/18/2006 at 5:04 PM:after the race I may be cursing him!
I already am!
And I still want to know what this means: "Denotes Prerace Monkey Attack, runner missing & bib retired"
I'm scared.
Quote from Jeff on 11/18/2006 at 5:04 PM:You're going to do great.
Thanks - we'll see. My goals are pretty firm: 1) Survive, 2) Finish.
On the plus side, I've got a decent chance of finishing in the top 100 in a marathon. That won't happen again! |

Prerace attck? Well, them hills are not safe. Don't look for those runners in the morning. You will not find them.
All mile markers are approximate.
Just a few hours to go... |

Is it too late for a refund?
I heard some sketchy things about the race director .....
See you in 8 hours. Maybe. |
