Bad news: I recently had a brief case stolen from a vehicle while out of town (not my vehicle, smash & grab)
Good news: Somebody found my bag (dumped) and offered to return it!
Bad news: I got it in the mail today and it reeks of cigarettes Dead Tight lipped
Good news: My car/house keys and all the other contents were there! Big grin

On another note...if I want to make an avitar, can I just use a picture? How do I make this work???

Lynn, that stinks, but I'm glad you got your stuff back.

Re: the avatars, I find that they show up clearer if you resize them before uploading (with the longest side no greater than 100 pixels).

Glad you got your stuff back! That reminds me of one time in highschool I'd lost my wallet out of my back pocket when I was bicycling. Someone found it and called me. They were horribly worried that I'd be mad because there was no money in it when they returned it. Good thing I knew that I never had any money in that wallet anyway! (Not that much has changed... Wink )

There definitely are honest and good people in the world.

The file I have actually has a pucker and a kiss (motion!), guess RA doesn't support that!...you'll have to settle for just the pucker, not the actual kiss!

jlynnbob--if your avatar is any indication of what ultra running does to a person, I am so not there. I don't look good in glasses. Wink

Unless, of course, you're just monkeying around.

No, it's just how I get when I can't fit a run in! Cry

OK, now tell me how you post pictures into a message and I'll show you the other choices....

Hey Pron8r, that pic looks a lot like Palo Duro Canyon in West Texas! There is a race out there in October that is a blast...on trails, theaux...

The pic is from the Valley of Fire Half-marathon last November in Southern Nevada. That shot is on the flatest part of a very hilly course.

As to how to post pictures in a message--I'm not really sure, as I rarely do it. I suspect that as soon as Wingz tells you, we'll both know.

Eric may have another, easier way of doing this. I have to post the picture on my geocities site first. Then I create a link to it in the forum by using that little button you see on the right just above the list of emoticons. That will give you some brackets and funny letters. Smile I go to the picture I just posted online, richt click on it and select "copy image location." Then I sandwich my cursor in between the two sets of brackets like this []x[] and hit cntrl-V to paste the address. It looks strange when you're editing the message, but if you got it in there right it comes out as your picture.

It's a pain, especially uploading a big picture with dial-up, but it works. Perhaps there's an easier way? Any hints, Eric?

I thought of allowing users to upload a few pictures for use in the forums, but my friends convinced me that it's easier to direct them to use one of the many free online photo services. It saves me the time to add the feature, the bandwidth to upload and display the pictures, as well as room on the hard disks.

To reduce your upload time, you should reduce the size of the pictures first. That requires some kind of image editor. Most cameras these days create images of sevearl megabytes in size, and at 2500 x 1900 pixels, they're too large to be displayed anyway. The only time you need a picture of that resolution is if you're printing it to photo paper.

And as to why if you upload an animated gif for your avatar, but the resulting picture is no longer animated, the resizing process is not capable of resizing animated gifs. However, if you upload one that's smaller than 100 x 100, its format should be preserved.
