Water Carriers - Need suggestions (Read 1078 times)

For the last few weeks when I am running long, I have added an extra 8oz bottle to my Amphipod belt so am carrying 2 -8oz bottles. Problem is that when I added the extra bottle, I notice the bottles bounce alot...so much that I take one off the belt and carry it in my hand. I am looking for another solution to carry up to 20 oz of water. Any recommendations?? I picked up a camelback on sale today that holds 70oz of water, I am just not sure about running with it, even with just 20-30oz. Anyone use a camelback? Thanks Bob http://bobrunner.blogspot.com
Give the camelbak a shot. You don't have to fill it all the way. Is it one that has a stermun strap, adjustable shoulder straps and a waist strap? Fine-tuning them as you drain the reservoir helps tame the jostles. I run with one sometimes. Also holds keys, phone, gel - whatever you may need.

I've had pretty good luck with the 4 bottle fuel belt (8 ounce bottles). That would get you to 32 oz. Seems like its a very personal thing though. I had the amphipod and found it bounced around too much. Others can't stand the fuel belt but it works for me.

I ran a mile and I liked it, liked it, liked it.

I have all sorts of belts and Camelbaks for just about any type of run. Hydration belts/packs are a weakness of mine. So are running skirts. Just keep trying things out until you find what works for you. Ebay what you don't like.

I like the waistpak camelbak, not so hot on the over the shoulder one, but my running p runs with one and it doesnt bother her. The nice thing about bladder style water holders is if you bleed off most of the air you hardly slosh at all.

Meh, standard, I have a Fuel Belt version of that one for my loop runs but the bottle with it holds 20 oz. I have used a 24 oz. bottle in the belt with no problems. 20 oz. of water is more than enough for the loop as it brings me past a local well every 5k or so. The pockets hold the random urban runner stuff I carry. Not so hot for trail running though. Need something sturdier for those days. What kind of long run only needs 20 oz. of fluid btw? If you plan on adding distance, I would keep something that can grow as your needs grow. The Camelbak would be good for that, and it can handle both urban and trail running. The Fuel Belts seem to get torn up easy on the trails. That could be just me though.

I think 20oz is good for 15 miles in hot weather. I use the Nathan 2.

Bob, Make sure your belt is adjusted correctly and the holders are secure. I have an Amphipod and have not had that problem. Kirk

Modified: I also had to send back the second pack.

Holders are secure and I cinched the belt a bit more. Still too much bounce. BTW I am using the Amphipod Airflow Lite with 2 8oz bottles http://www.amphipod.com/235/235.html Spent some time at Sport Chalet looking at their single bottle options. Will check at my running store on Thursday night when I run with the group. Next weekend I will try the camelback and see how that works. Thanks Bob http://bobrunner.blogspot.com

I have used the Amphipod Full Tilt Velocity 20 oz capacity (I think it's 20) that fits in the small of my back for the last year or so, and really like it - it has a small zippered pocket that holds my ID. $$, key, whatever. It does not bounce at all, and 20 oz was just enough for my 14 miler this am. On longer runs I use a larger Camel Back type waist carrier with a drinking tube. Bill Smile

Wow. 20 oz lasts me about an hour in hot weather. And I'm tiny. hmm...
