Forums >Running 101>Drop back week question....
I am only running about 10 -15 mpw right now (I will start to increase after the New Year) so do I really need a drop back week or is that only during an increase? Also if I'm running fairly low mileage (15-20mpw) do I need a drop back week? Thanks
No.

We are fragile creatures on collision with our judgment day.
Drop back weeks become important when you are doing long runs (8 to 10 miles and up) on the weekends and hill runs or intervals in the middle of the week. These allow you the opportunity to recover every third week.
Given where you are in your training, I'm not sure a drop back week is required yet.

Agreed.

Or, why not try an "up ahead" week? Or whatever the opposite of a drop back week would be called. This could support your New Year increase in a good way.
