The year of base
Sorry Buckeye, was too ashamed to come in an post a report/reply...
The course was horrible. The start was unorganized and they started us in the wrong place (about .2 miles away from the start). Total distance on Polar was 13.34 when finished.
I ran a pathetic 2:10. Very unhappy considering my training run for 11 miles the week before was 1:40 - and that was a long slow distance under 80% MHR run.
The course was extremely difficult. We opened up downhill for about a mile and a half. There was a stretch of 3 miles where we were mostly climbing. About a 1/3rd of a mile large hill, then a 2.5 mile gradual up hill with a few flats or slight declines. Then a mile downhill fast, finishing with 2 miles rolling hills. Repeat. (The course was a loop twice around).
There you have it. I have decided two things because of this performance.
1) I will be lowering my marathon (Chicago) goal time from 3:50 to a more manageable 4:10.
2) I will be training more miles now to get my general fitness up. I have been following the Hal Higdon Intermediate plan, butI am going to swtich to the Pfitzinger 12 week 50 mile marathon plan for the last 12 weeks here....
Goals: Run 1400 miles
Marathon: sub 3:45
Half marathon: sub 1:40
10K: sub 42:00
5k: sub 20:00

Triangle ... Hold off on changing Goal until maybe 3 - 4 weeks before 10/18. Trust me I know I could bust a 1:45 - 1:50 right now if i could time warp to this fall for my 9/13 half. but if racing a half in 95 degree weather on a tough course as you described ,I would be with you in the 2:10 range.
chicago will be flat and should be 55 -60 degrees mid October (I know for some reason indian summer loves chi marathon and brings 80's).... Keep the Faith!
MTA --- Anyone signing up for a Half in mid July in St Louis earns buccu HTFU points in my book, so nothing to be ashamed of.
Runnerbliss,
Good luck .. sorry if I missed your half.
We also have a fell weekend with the following runners up .... Good Luck All!!

"I've been following Eddy's improvement over the last two years on this site, and it's been pretty dang solid. Sure the weekly mileage has been up and down, but over the long haul he's getting out the door and has turned himself into quite a runner. He's only now just figuring out his potential. Consistency in running is measured in years, not weeks. And over the last couple of years, Eddy's made great strides" Jeff 14 Jan 2009
