Just Do It

Does anyone have a recommendation for a summer marathon (July) this year? Thoughts, advice, etc., would be appreciated

Grandma's Marathon in Duluth MN, June 21...very well organized and supported race.

I think marathons are harder to come by in the hotter months of the summer. That being said, the only one I know of in MA (not too far from NY I guess) is in Wakefield. It is a multiple loop course around Lake Quanapowitt (sp?). I think it is something like 8 laps of the Lake. At the same time this is going on they are holding a 24 hour ultramarathon too. This one is usually around the last weekend in July.

Y'all know there is a Grandma's Marathon group here at RA? http://runningahead.com/groups/Granny/
For a marathon calendar, see http://www.marathonguide.com/races/races.cfm. Or, for a really "cool" marathon and vacation that isn't on the Marathonguide.com calendar, see http://www.arcticmarathon.com/ Smile
I want a good course with cool weather all but guaranteed, then try San Francisco. Not a bad place to visit either...

San Francisco. It is not as hilly as one would think. You go over and back on the Golden Gate, through the marina, and beyond. Cool to Cold start. 50 degrees and fog, or 60 and clear.

My Wife got me "The Travelling Marathoner" by Fodor's last year for my Birthday. It's not close to New York, but they raved about the Desert News Marathon--held in Salt lake City during the summer in July http://deseretnews.com/run/ sounded like you could find good cheap deals on accomodations.
