5K PR (Read 1111 times)

I'm still tooting my own horn and patting myself on the back.

    6/2008 - 5K PR was 28:24

    11/2008 - 5K PR was 23:38

so I was shooting for sub 22:00 this year on the same course/race as my 28:24.

    I crushed it.  20:34 (6:38 pace)

i finished 105 out of nearly three thousand people.

looking forward to breaking the 20 minute mark at the next race.

    Joe

      glutton for punishment

damn thats great,  what are you doing to drop time like that?

i have been running for about 16 months and have gone from 28 to 22:15, and to keep going lower is taking some serious work.   I am a little older (50) too, so that may be a limiting factor for me, but still, what kind of speed sessions you doing?

          2012= under-goaled

            bigJoe,

great job and way to improve over the year.

Has to feel awsome to go from feeling like you could barely finish a 5K to 105 out of 3000 people ... thats awesome!

ok.  you should be in position to challenge the 5k world record in July of 2010.

ok... let's not get carried away.

but seriously, I don't really do any speed work.  I just put the miles in.  If I'm feeling good, I'll run hard.  when I'm not I take it easy. I wouldn't even say I run a lot.

Thanks for the feedback.  It really does feel good to be improving.  I'm already looking forward to the next race.

hey I was just drawing the straight line from 28:24 to 20:34 on a time scale plot and projecting the line to keep going.  Math don't lie baby.  You should be good to WR in 2010.  Smile

seriously... that's some major strides.  congrats.  I mean a 5-minute PR and then a 3.5 minute PR?  Criminey this is a 5k and not a marathon.  Regular folks just aren't supposed to make that kind of gain.  awesome.
