There's been a lot of discussion on the general boards about both the 10% rule and rest days, so I thought I'd combine the two in a super-duper question: I'm chasing the bunny way back at the pack, with the goal to slowly gain on him by the end of the year. Right now, I'm on week 7 of the couch to 5k program. So, 3x a week, a little over 6 mi/wk right now. On a couple of the four non-running days, would it be useful or harmful for me to take a slow mile or so, just to keep my legs active and add some mileage? Or should I wait until I'm up to 9-10 mi/wk to add a day, even just one mile?

Knowing that you've already been hurt once this program by trying to do too much/too soon/too fast, I'd say nix the running. It wouldn't be a bad idea to throw in a day of cross-training... something OTHER THAN RUNNING... something low or non-impact. Something fun. But why not give the program a chance to work for you? That's my $0.02.

I thought that's what you'd say.
Got it.
