Introduce yourself! (Read 654 times)

Hi, everyone. I am Mel, 59 years old, a longtime runner but computer know-nothing (this is my first-ever Internet posting). My miles are all of the run/walk " Galloway" variety due to mild arthritis in one knee which makes sustained efforts no longer possible. 1000 km. seems like a realistic goal for the year, and I'm happy to have come across this group. Good luck and good health to all.
Hey all, I will be a chaperone for the Oxford (michigan) high school adventure club (skiing, snowshoeing, "polar bear swim", etc. this weekend at Torch Lake, MI. My wife and I have 3 kids, 2 of whom will be on the trip. I doubt I will see them much. I will do my best to not embarass them, but, that's near impossible. Looking forward to the 1000K this year. Ed, can you send a few bottles of the weiss beer this way... Wink
Hi everyone! My name is Alyssa. I'm a 26 year old literacy specialist for my local county school system. I orginally joined the 1000mile club and hope to reach that goal too. I currently have an injury (torn cartilage) in knee and have to work that out. I use running to manage my weight. I'm currently 5'4 and about 120, but would love to be 115 or so. But I love food, so running helps me eat more!!! I like to log about 25 miles weekly, but I'm beginning to think that is unrealistic for me. (2nd torn cartilage in less that year) My new years resolution was to exercise less. So I would like to run about 12-18 miles weekly. And mentally be okay with that. I also do most of my running on a treadmill. I have a two year old son...we gated the treadmill off...so I can run and he can play around me. Best of both worlds. I wish I could say I have some really interesting hobby like so many of you, but I guess I"m boring.

ooops guys....sorry, I've noticed that my last post had some spelling errors, I guess because I was typing so fast. Pretty bad when I teach literacy for a living!

Hello all. I am Rey, 32, from Milpitas, Ca. I was invited to this group by a friend, lets call her Smiley, but I do not see that she has posted in here yet. I've always like running, but never have really measured how far or fast I run. About 2 months ago I started running in earnest. Fun fact? Hmm, I'm a HUGE Pearl Jam fan and though I'm Nicaraguan I'm told I drink like an Irish/German mix.
That your knees never hurt, that your feet never ache, that the wind always be at your back, and a stiff drink ever await your return.
I just joined you guys. I hope that's ok! I'm Megan, I'm a newish runner (started with C25K last May). Hoping to do my first marathon in January of 2008, though we'll have to see what happens with this whole "job" thing. I'm finishing up my last year of law school and taking the bar exam in July. So I need this running thing to keep me sane! I'm a bit behind the pace bunny, but I know I can catch up!
Hiya Megan, Congrats on being so close to done with law school - that must feel great!!! I was thinking about a Jan '08 first marathon also, though the way things are looking, it may be delayed a year or so. Welcome to our group! And will ya trip the bunny when you pass him for me? Cool

                I've got a fever...

Hey folks, I'm Jeff and I live in Alabama. I'm 36, and I've been running seriously off and on since high school, but the last 4~5 years have been almost non-existent for me. (I have a 4-1/2 year child. Coincidence? Not likely). I'm hoping to make 2007 a rebuilding year and get back into running regularly. So far so good -- at least 4 times / week since I started in January. I just found this site in late February and I love it. I'm behind the Pace Bunny, but it's a long year.

On your deathbed, you won't wish that you'd spent more time at the office.  But you will wish that you'd spent more time running.  Because if you had, you wouldn't be on your deathbed.

Hey Jeff, Welcome! Good to have another Michigan Man on this site. Ken '85
Hi everyone, I've been around here since February and still trying to catch up to the bunny. A factoid about me that may or may not be interesting, is that I am an avid (rabid?) video gamer. I simply love online gaming - especially when it involves playing against (read: killing them repeatedly) real people. My forum nick here is actually a short version for one of my video game personas - "Bonkin Noggins". His specialty was - you guessed it - bonking people in the noggin with a big stick. I play all sorts of shooters and RPGs - but right now BF2142 has my attention again.

When it’s all said and done, will you have said more than you’ve done?

Hello everyone, I'm Randy currently from Oklahoma, but originally from Texas. I run for my health, not for speed, though I have trouble when the gun goes off at a race wanting to take off with all the 20 year olds. I'm running my first half-marathon on April 29 and I'm excited and looking forward to it

Hi everyone, I just found this website and this user group and decided to join up! I'm 39 years old, live in Germany, have played handball for 27 years (last match was in March) and started running just two weeks ago. So it's all new and I've only run short distances so far. Since I joined this group quite late I'm not sure I'll reach the 1000 km mark – right now I'm way behind the pace bunny – but let's wait and see. It certainly is good motivation. Smile
Hi I'm Mandy - I live in Wellington, New Zealand. I only started running again in March after 6 months off. I love racing short races and have been doing a 5k series weekly since early March. It finished a couple of weeks ago so I'll have to find something else to feed my new racing addiction! I'm starting a bit late I know but will be trying to catch the pace bunny before the end of the year!
Hi all. I've been a member of the site for a few months now but I'm brand new to the group. Originally, I joined the 1000 mile club and even jumped into the 1500 mile club for about a minute. A fractured foot and my second bout of shinsplints later, I've decided to take it a little easier on my body. I'm 32 years old and live just outside of Columbus, Ohio. Back in my younger years, I was a competitive middle-distance runner and after taking a 10 year break from the sport am trying my absolute best to become moderately competitive again. If only I could get my body to cooperate with me! Smile I'm happy to be a part of the group and hope to beat that pace bunny down along with the rest of the you this year! Chris
I didn't see this club before!! I like knowing that I have a slight chance of catching the bunny here! Unlike the 1000 mile club. Big grin
