Times in my age group. (Read 392 times)

I will be running a couple of 10ks this spring, and would like to get a presentable result, say top 25%. I am amazed to see in the results for last year 4 guys in M55-59 ran under 40 minutes, the quickest under 36 minutes! None of the names known to me, all Canadians, three of them local (from Ontario.) Somewhat discouraging, but gives me some idea of what real athletes can do! Simon. (In slow motion.)

    PBs since age 60:  5k- 24:36, 10k - 47:17. Half Marathon- 1:42:41.

Canada has had some impressive masters runners, especially in the older divisions with the likes of Earl Fee, Jess Phillips, and the great Ed Whitlock. I'm not going to feel too sorry for you though. These are the results of a race I finished 5th in 60-64 age group with a 39:32. The 55-59's are on top, 60-64's below. Going against the best guys in our divisions helps keep us humble and makes us work harder. Although this race was billed as National Masters 10k Championhip, only the 5th place finisher in 55-59 was from outside of California. The other 4 were locals and all the 60-64's were from Cal. Amazing running, Jim. I think California is a known running hotbed, so you are up against tough competition. I would love to run a single mile below 6 minutes! Simon.

Simon, How are the aches and pains coming along? You have a nice blend of workouts in your log, but I see that you take 2-3 days off in a row sometimes. Is this because of injury or nagging problem? I think you would see some real improvement if you were able to be more consistent. Even a few slow miles on days that you would otherwise take off can make a difference. I find that they actually help me to recover from harder days more than a day off. This is a hot topic for a lot of runners, though. There are many who swear by taking frequent rest days.
