    On the road again...

Mileage goal for October is 190, with an outside shot at 200.

Finished up my month with 200.2, which is easily my highest month ever.

I write. I read. I run. One time, I ran a lot on my 50th birthday.

        Just a dude.

          My goals:

          1. 275 miles

          2. <18:30 5k on Oct 9

          3. Lots of hills

          1)  Only 150something miles - Miss

          2)  17:53 5k - WIN

          3)  Only a couple hill workouts - Miss

Two weeks almost completely off trying to get my legs better... sigh...

Getting back in shape... Just need it to be a skinnier shape...

            140 miles

            4 half marathons

            stay strong

I already ran a trail 1/2 this last weekend...it was one of the most awesome runs ever...I had never run on a trail before, ever.  Woohoo!  My quads are completely trashed though...hoping only one more day of recovery is necessary!

            125

3 half marathons - but couldn't race any of them

            definitely stronger...but not there yet

What was a pulled groin is now SI joint dysfunction (or what was SI joint dysfunction caused a pulled groin?)...I am better today than yesterday...and yesterday I was better than the day before that...so, getting there with a lot of stretching and PT.  Ah well, it is what it is.

              1. BQ at Baystate (3:15)

              2. Less than 200 miles.

              3. More sleep / Better diet - at least until 10/17

I think I can handle number 2 but number 1 & 3 will be tough.

<Had to go back and add #3 which is key to #1. Not so much for #2, which I might fail at anyway.>

              1. Success

              2. Success. I had to give just a little push to run at least 150.

              3. Mixed bag. I took care to get the sleep and nutrition I needed the week before running the marathon. Lot's of room for improvement.

I also ticked off another running goal, running a sub 20 5K while pushing my 8 year old son. You see, he can't run so this is one way he can experience the thrill of racing...and he likes to go fast. This was our third race of the year. Running quickly while pushing the jogger isn't easy. Loaded down it's almost 100 pounds and we do a lot of talking the whole way. This race we talked a lot about strategy. He kept track of our place, learned about running the tangents, and watched for the mile splits. It was good fun.

I've got two goals for October:

                1. Enjoy the ebbing of the yeartide

                2. Stick to a realistic though somewhat monotonous training plan that will give me exactly 126 miles for the month

I've got no races scheduled, though I'm planning to volunteer at Steamtown.

                Results:

                1. Helped to coach my sons through successful soccer and xc seasons; got a bunch of firewood set for winter. October is my favorite month.

                2. Nearly reached mileage goals. Highest month since July.

Steamtown was a fun morning - helping runners, enjoying free food and coffee.

Speed my steps along your path, according to your will.

                  1.  160+ miles

                  2.  Stay healthy until race day

                  3.  sub 1:45 HM on 10/30

                  1.  Well, I came in at 159.1 miles for the month.  I fought a little illness late in the month, so I cut a few miles out.

                  2.  Other than the illness I mentioned, I stayed healthy.  Did have a little scare when I stepped on something under the leaves and almost rolled my ankle a week out from the race.

                  3.  Crushed it with a 1:43:35.  5 minute PR!

                  "I aim to misbehave."
