Good NYT article on overtraining.

“Twenty miles is nothing,” Dr. Keteyian said. “Talk to me when you are running 50 miles a week. If you are a runner and have a steady history of running 40 to 70 miles a week and now you are pushing it to 80, 90, 100 miles a week and your times are dropping and you are feeling sluggish, then I’ll start to listen.”

Yes. Good article.
It's all fun and games until the flying monkeys attack.

The article talks about miles/wk, but what about intensity? Pretty interesting stuff because I just started cycling in May and most of my rides have been close to as hard as I could go. I've improved quite a bit, but my running hasn't improved a lot. Maybe I'm being too conservative. Hmmmmm.

If miles/wk is the only factor of overtraining, I probably won't need to worry about it at all in the near future.

what about number of pancakes per week & syrup burnout? article is inexplicably incomplete on this issue.

Very good point. I didn't want to bring that up, but I'm glad someone did. And I think it makes a big difference if you use oatmeal in your pancakes...AND how they're cut. Don't even get me started on the types of syrup. Running is just so complicated. Confused

Run2Eat is here. Smile I feel complete, like a big platter of pancakes has been eaten.

Yeah I wasn't so much commenting on the subject of overtraining as it's not something I really worry about. I'm just happy to point out any well written article on endurance sports, especially running, in a major publication since they are so rare.

And any subject that can roust Run2Eat out of lurkdom is a good one.
