GREAT JOB Lank!!!! Congrats on finishing your first marathon! When are you running your next one?

Thanks everyone for the kind words.
Running can be very inspirational and very uplifting. It can also be very humbling and I experienced much of the latter. I really thought a 4 hour marathon was in the cards but that was obviously not the case. I had envisioned a slow start, working my way up to the four hour pacer near the half and finishing strong and everything worked well up until 18 or so miles.
My watch splits are much different than the official site's version (although my finishing time is right on). I went through 3 miles at 28:42, through 10 miles at 1:30:49 just behind the four-hour pacer, at 13 miles I was 1:57:25 and actually surged ahead of her at this point but then somewhere during mile 19 the wheels came off. I'd estimate my half to be about 1:58:20 and my finishing time was 4:27:37 so a drastic drop-off.
It was a great event, the course was great, the crowd was excellent, I'm very happy I did it, but it has left me disappointed like reading a great book only to have a dud as the final chapter. But how good can one feel after being beat by someone in a banana suit?
Having said all that this is a new PR for me and that should always be celebrated. The answer, as always, is more miles.

Banana dude is a wimp. He got his lazy ass off the course while you were still out there fighting for the Man. It takes real mettle to do battle for that long. Kudos. You are strong. You are tough.
And monkeys eat bananas anyway.

We (okay just me) were tracking you in Dave's thread and watched it unfold. I recognized that fade from my first marathon and knew what you were feeling at the end. Good job grinding it out.
Congrats on your first marathon!

sounds more like a kinkython than a marathon. heh heh.
lank - good job. do not waste time being disappointed. there are too many variables in marathoning to count on getting it all right the first time. you did great.
if you don't run, you'll rust. [tom petty]

Pictures please.
And that may be the funniest thing I ever heard in a race report that didn't involve somebody shitting on themselves.

You did it man. You didnt give in and that is awesome. Next time you can smash banana boy. Come on and admit it, it must have been fun for you doing all the math in your head while you ran.

There's even a picture of me biting my tongue. You'll laugh, you'll cry, it's better than cats.

Hmm, somehow I always pictured you with a moustache.
Nicely done!

Better than Cats? Technically true, but painfully nonspecific.
