Without any purse to attract elites, this past weekend's Marine Corps Marathon produced the very unusual result of both winners being first time marathon runners.
The women's winner had actually not gone beyond 22 in training ever. Good story from the Washington Post.

I ran a mile and I liked it, liked it, liked it.

Didja see that comment at the bottom of the article claiming it is no longer a PR course b/c of the hills? I didn't notice them much b/c they were early -- I kind of remember a hill to get onto the Key Bridge, and I think we went uphill to the turnaround in Georgetown, and definitely it was uphill right after the turnaround -- but that was all early. I kinda noticed the uphill coming back into Virginia (that must have been the 14th St bridge), but a friend caught me there and I accelerated to stay with him, so it wasn't the hill that I was noticing at that point...

An even more unusual result:

Sorry if this was posted elsewhere, I'm too lazy to look. Oh...and don't really care.

Yep, discussed at length in the gsp and in here. No problem.
Illinois has sort of flushed their season down the crapper in recent weeks, huh?

I would say moving Hains Point earlier in the race would make the course much more PR friendly. Nothing like being alone with your thoughts during some of the toughest miles of the race.

You would have noticed it if you were heading into a 20-25 mph head wind as you climbed it. I still have nightmares about that damn bridge.

Ugh...tell me about it. Inconsistent play will do that. I've conceded to being more interested in Juice's stats than how we finished. If he has a few more big games putting up big numbers, I think he could get some Heismann consideration next year...but he'll have to cut down on his turnovers, and the team will need to be better than .500.
I'm mad Minnesota is 7-1. Have you watched them play? They aren't that good...

What's even more unfortunate is that they don't play PSU.

are you telling me you missed the rout over N. Illinois, the stomping of Bowling Green, the dismantling of Montana State and the total annhilation of Florida Atlantic? The Rose Bowl is so close.

Well, I routed, stomped, dismantled, and annihilated your mom last night, but that doesn't mean I'm any good.
That's like saying: "I slept with Scout's mom, then with Globule's mom, then with jscovill's mom, then with JK's mom...so I must have game."

Toledo is just lucky we didn't have them on the schedule this yr. We'll get 'em next yr.

For a momma joke, that shows remarkable cleverosity. Approve.
