The Cool Points Game (Read 1382 times)

Let me preface this by saying that yes I am immature. And, wondering whether or not I have a life is very valid. Anyhow, it was one fateful day back in October of '06 that one of the music artists that I book (insert shameless plug http://www.caryjudd.com) taught me the Cool Points Game. I have shared this game with many friends and even business associates, and we continue to play it on a regular basis. It's pretty simple. Basically, you ask somebody an obvious question, and if they answer it, you say "give 'em to me." You get to take their cool points. However, if he/she knows that you are asking an obvious question, they can say "give 'em to me," meaning that they get to take your cool points. However, if the person being asked the question isn't sure if they are being asked an obvious question or not, they can say "for real," and it's almost like a timeout. No cool points can be taken because they questioned the legitimacy of the question. As you may have guessed, all people in the conversation must know the game in order for it to function properly and really be successful. I'll post an example of a possible cool points scenario in my next entry. Also, there is really no finite number or way of scoring points exchanges. It's more for the fun of it. You don't lose a certain number of points if you are caught off guard and answer an obvious question. While you don't start with a certain number of points, I would like to think that I have more cool points than somebody who cuts a course in a race, somebody who listens to Yanni, etc. Does this all make sense? The floor is open for questions.

Example of a Possible Cool Points Scenario: House: Hey Trent, how's it going? Trent: Going well, yet I'm a little scared of having to run with you and Candice because you're both so much faster than me. House: Don't worry. It'll be OK. We'll go slow for you. Trent: Whew! Thanks so much. House: Hey, somebody told me that you are the race director for a local marathon. I was thinking I need to plan for a November race. Are you really a race director? Trent: Yes, I coordinate a race called the Flying Monkey Marathon. House: give 'em to me!!! (obvious question and he answered it. so points are taken from Trent)

House: Hey Candice. Thanks for joining us for the run today. I really needed to get some miles in today. Candice: So, after today's run, how many miles will you have for January? House: Give 'em to me. (I saw the obvious question coming. she already knew how many miles I would have. so, I called her on it and took her cool points)

And I was sad... because i'm really bad at this game.

How do you keep your feet on the ground, when you know you were born to fly?

JK: Good run today, isn't it? Trent: Yeah, I love running in sleet. JK: Can you believe House had to stop to use the bathroom again? Geeze. He should really wear a cathater. Trent: At least he can't limp when he's in the porta potty. JK: Hey, do you know where the Flying Pig Marathon is held? Trent: For Real? JK: No, not for real. I was just trying to get your points. (No cool points are exchanged in this scenario because Trent asked, "for real?" because he was skeptical of whether or not JK was trying to get Trent's points with an obvious question. It's basically like a timeout.)

Yes. And, obviously I had a lot of free time on my hands last night. Can't believe I typed all this out.

What is the conversion rate of cool points to miles run ?

I need a ruling from Casa on this. I say Trent cheats. He answers every single question with "for real," which means he'll never lose any points. He's violating the spirit if not the letter of the law. He needs to be punished. Somebody punch him in his giant calves.
