Does it count if we're pacing in a race instead of racing? I still have a goal to hit at the half marathon I'm pacing this Saturday. Pace Group goal = 1:30 but I'll aim for a shade under 1:30, somewhere in the 1:29:30 - 1:29:55 range.

Heh.

The Niswonger in Johnson City. Heh.
Hoping to put forth a ballsy effort.
(Yeah, it's a 5000, pauly, thanks.)
I'll accept this, but your 8 balledness will be measured by your ability to hit your pace. And I might ask that you tell us how many people finished with you.
Okay, that's a good challenge. The race is Securian Frozen Half Marathon in St. Paul, MN. I usually tell anyone that finishes with me they have to buy me a beer after the race. We'll know how many finish with me based on how drunk I get at lunch that day.
Just be careful not to dick around in the first mile or peter out in the last.
And remember that the middle mile is always the hardest.

Not really a race; more of a challenge. Goal is to finish alive.

Is taking the cable car to the top of San Jacinto allowed?
The process is the goal.

Taking the tram up would require running around 6 miles to the tram base. I've thought about it, but hey, I'm going for broke. Actually the tram top is positioned very nicely on the the trail. If you hike all the way up to the tram top and something goes wrong, then you can ride down. If you keep going to the Mt. San Jacinto peak and back to the tram, then you can ride down. But if you have the guts to keep going and run the rest of the 8 miles, descending nearly 8k feet ( roughly a 17% descent), then you're SOL and you have to finish, killing your shins and your quads along the way. I give myself about a 75% chance of getting to the peak... and let's say a 50% chance of finishing the whole thing.
This guy's done it twice:

There's also a FKT from the start of the trail to the Tram in about 2:30 described here:

I so know what I am doing next Thanksgiving. Thanks for the links.
I thought you get to take the tram down! After 11,000 ft of climbing, they should let you sit down and ride to the bottom!!
